Ieremiah 38

1 Jeremiah, by a false suggestion, is put into the dungeon of Malchiah. 7 Ebed-melech, by suit, getteth him some enlargement. 14 Upon secret conference he counselleth the king by yielding to save his life. 24 By the king's instructions he concealeth the conference from the princes.

 38:1 ¶ Then Shephatiah 8203 the sonne 1121 of Mattan, 4977 and Gedaliah 1436 the sonne 1121 of Pashur 6583 and Iucal 3116 the sonne 1121 of Shelemiah, 8018 & Pashur 6583 the sonne 1121 of Malchiah 4441 heard 8085 z8799 x853 the words 1697 that x834 Ieremiah 3414 had spoken 1696 z8764 vnto x413 all x3605 the people, 5971 saying, 559 z8800

 38:2 Thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD, 3068 He that remaineth 3427 z8802 in this x2063 citie, 5892 shall die 4191 z8799 by the sword, 2719 by the famine, 7458 and by the pestilence, 1698 but he that goeth forth 3318 z8802 to x413 the Caldeans, 3778 shall liue: 2421 z8804 for he shall haue x1961 his life 5315 for a pray, 7998 and shall liue. 2425 y2421 z8799 z8675 z8804

 38:3 Thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD, 3068 This x2063 citie 5892 shall surely y5414 z8736 be giuen 5414 z8735 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylons 894 armie, 2428 which shall take 3920 z8804 it.

 38:4 Therefore the princes 8269 sayd 559 z8799 vnto x413 the king, 4428 We beseech thee x4994 let x853 this x2088 man 376 be put to death: 4191 z8714 for x3588 thus 3651 x5921 he x1931 weakeneth 7503 z8764 x853 the hands 3027 of the men y582 x376 of warre 4421 that remaine 7604 z8737 in this x2063 citie, 5892 and the hands 3027 of all x3605 the people, 5971 in speaking 1696 z8763 such x428 words 1697 vnto x413 them: for x3588 this x2088 man 376 seeketh 1875 z8802 not x369 the welfare 7965 of this x2088 people, 5971 but x3588 x518 the hurt. 7451

 38:5 Then Zedekiah 6667 the king 4428 sayd, 559 z8799 Behold, x2009 he x1931 [is] in your hand; 3027 for x3588 the king 4428 [is] not x369 he [that] can y3201 z8799 do x3201 any thing 1697 against you.

 38:6 Then tooke 3947 z8799 they x853 Ieremiah, 3414 and cast 7993 z8686 him into x413 the dungeon 953 of Malchiah 4441 the sonne 1121 of Hammelech y4428 x4429 that x834 [was] in the court 2691 of the prison: 4307 and they let downe 7971 z8762 x853 Ieremiah 3414 with cords: 2256 and in the dungeon 953 [there was] no x369 water, 4325 but x3588 x518 mire: 2916 so Ieremiah 3414 sunke 2883 z8799 in the mire. 2916

 38:7 ¶ Now when Ebed-melech 5663 the Ethiopian, 3569 one 376 of ye eunuches 5631 which x1931 was in the kings 4428 house, 1004 heard 8085 z8799 that x3588 they had put 5414 z8804 x853 Ieremiah 3414 in x413 the dungeon 953 (the king 4428 then sitting 3427 z8802 in the gate 8179 of Beniamin) 1144

 38:8 Ebed-melech 5663 went foorth 3318 z8799 out of the kings 4428 house, 1004 x4480 and spake 1696 z8762 to x413 the king, 4428 saying, 559 z8800

 38:9 My lord 113 the king, 4428 these x428 men y582 x376 haue done euill 7489 z8689 in x853 all x3605 that x834 they haue done 6213 z8804 to Ieremiah 3414 the Prophet, 5030 x853 whom x834 they haue cast 7993 z8689 into x413 the dungeon, 953 and he is like to die 4191 z8799 for 6440 x4480 hunger 7458 in the place y8478 where x8478 he is, for x3588 [there is] no x369 more x5750 bread 3899 in the city. 5892

 38:10 Then the king 4428 commanded 6680 z8762 x853 Ebed-melech 5663 the Ethiopian, 3569 saying, 559 z8800 Take 3947 z8798 from hence x4480 x2088 thirtie 7970 men y582 x376 with x3027 thee, y3027 and take vp 5927 z8689 x853 Ieremiah 3414 the Prophet 5030 out of x4480 the dungeon 953 before x2962 he die. 4191 z8799

 38:11 So Ebed-melech 5663 tooke 3947 z8799 x853 the men y582 x376 with x3027 him, y3027 and went y935 z8799 into x935 the house 1004 of the king 4428 vnder x413 x8478 the treasurie, 214 and tooke 3947 z8799 thence x4480 x8033 old 1094 cast cloutes, 5499 and old 1094 rotten ragges, 4418 and let them downe 7971 z8762 by cordes 2256 into x413 the dungeon 953 to x413 Ieremiah. 3414

 38:12 And Ebed-melech 5663 the Ethiopian 3569 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 Put 7760 z8798 now x4994 these old 1094 cast cloutes 5499 and rotten ragges 4418 vnder x8478 thine arme-holes, 679 3027 vnder x4480 x8478 the cordes. 2256 And Ieremiah 3414 did 6213 z8799 so. x3651

 38:13 So they drew vp 4900 z8799 x853 Ieremiah 3414 with cordes, 2256 and tooke him vp 5927 z8686 x853 out of x4480 the dungeon, 953 and Ieremiah 3414 remained 3427 z8799 in the court 2691 of the prison. 4307

 38:14 ¶ Then Zedekiah 6667 the king 4428 sent, 7971 z8799 and tooke 3947 z8799 x853 Ieremiah 3414 the Prophet 5030 vnto x413 him into x413 the third 7992 entrie 3996 that x834 is in the house 1004 of the LORD, 3068 and the king 4428 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 I x589 will aske 7592 z8802 thee a thing: 1697 hide 3582 z8762 nothing x408 x1697 from x4480 me.

 38:15 Then Ieremiah 3414 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Zedekiah, 6667 If x3588 I declare 5046 z8686 it vnto thee, wilt thou not x3808 surely y4191 z8687 put me to death? 4191 z8686 and if x3588 I giue thee counsell, 3289 z8799 wilt thou not x3808 hearken 8085 z8799 vnto x413 me?

 38:16 So 6667 the king 4428 sware 7650 z8735 secretly 5643 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 saying, 559 z8800 As the LORD 3068 liueth 2416 x853 that x834 made 6213 z8804 vs x853 this x2063 soule, 5315 I wil not x518 put thee to death, 4191 z8686 neither x518 will I giue 5414 z8799 thee into the hand 3027 of these x428 men y582 x376 that x834 seeke 1245 z8764 x853 thy life. 5315

 38:17 Then said 559 z8799 Ieremiah 3414 vnto x413 Zedekiah, 6667 Thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD 3068 the God 430 of hostes, 6635 the God 430 of Israel, 3478 If x518 thou wilt assuredly y3318 z8800 goe foorth 3318 z8799 vnto x413 the king 4428 of Babylons 894 Princes, 8269 then thy soule 5315 shall liue, 2421 z8804 and this x2063 Citie 5892 shall not x3808 be burnt 8313 z8735 with fire, 784 and thou x859 shalt liue, 2421 z8804 and thine house. 1004

 38:18 But if x518 thou wilt not x3808 goe foorth 3318 z8799 to x413 the king 4428 of Babylons 894 Princes, 8269 then shall this x2063 City 5892 be giuen 5414 z8738 into the hand 3027 of the Caldeans, 3778 and they shall burne 8313 z8804 it with fire, 784 and thou x859 shalt not x3808 escape x4422 out y4422 z8735 of their hand. 3027 x4480

 38:19 And Zedekiah 6667 the king 4428 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 I x589 am afraid y1672 z8802 of x1672 x853 the Iewes 3064 that x834 are fallen 5307 z8804 to x413 the Caldeans, 3778 lest x6435 they deliuer 5414 z8799 mee into their hand, 3027 and they mocke 5953 z8694 me.

 38:20 But Ieremiah 3414 said, 559 z8799 They shall not x3808 deliuer 5414 z8799 [thee]: obey, 8085 z8798 I beseech thee, x4994 the voyce 6963 of the LORD, 3068 which x834 I x589 speake 1696 z8802 vnto x413 thee: so it shall be well 3190 z8799 vnto thee, and thy soule 5315 shall liue. 2421 z8799

 38:21 But if x518 thou x859 refuse 3986 to goe foorth, 3318 z8800 this x2088 [is] the word 1697 that x834 the LORD 3068 hath shewed 7200 z8689 me.

 38:22 And behold, x2009 all x3605 the women 802 that x834 are left 7604 z8738 in the king 4428 of Iudahs 3063 house, 1004 shalbe brought forth 3318 z8716 to x413 the king 4428 of Babylons 894 Princes, 8269 and those x2007 [women] shall say, 559 z8802 Thy friends 7965 y582 x376 haue set x5496 thee on, y5496 z8689 and haue preuailed 3201 z8804 against thee: thy feet 7272 are sunke 2883 z8717 in the mire, 1206 [and] they are turned away 5472 z8738 backe. 268

 38:23 So they shall bring out 3318 z8688 all x3605 thy wiues, 802 and thy children 1121 to x413 the Caldeans, 3778 and thou x859 shalt not x3808 escape x4422 out y4422 z8735 of their hand, 3027 x4480 but x3588 shalt be taken 8610 z8735 by the hand 3027 of the King 4428 of Babylon: 894 and thou shalt cause this x2063 citie 5892 to be burnt 8313 z8799 with fire. 784

 38:24 ¶ Then said 559 z8799 Zedekiah 6667 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 Let no x408 man 376 know 3045 z8799 of these x428 words, 1697 and thou shalt not x3808 die. 4191 z8799

 38:25 But if x3588 the Princes 8269 heare 8085 z8799 that x3588 I haue talked 1696 z8765 with x854 thee, and they come 935 z8804 vnto x413 thee, and say 559 z8804 vnto x413 thee, Declare 5046 z8685 vnto vs now x4994 what x4100 thou hast said 1696 z8765 vnto x413 the king; 4428 hide 3582 z8762 it not x408 from x4480 vs, and wee wil not x3808 put thee to death; 4191 z8686 also what x4100 the king 4428 said 1696 z8765 vnto x413 thee:

 38:26 Then thou shalt say 559 z8804 vnto x413 them, I x589 presented 5307 z8688 my supplication 8467 before 6440 the king, 4428 that he would not x1115 cause me to returne 7725 z8687 to Ionathans y3083 x3129 house 1004 to die 4191 z8800 there. x8033

 38:27 Then came 935 z8799 all x3605 the Princes 8269 vnto x413 Ieremiah, 3414 and asked 7592 z8799 him, and he told 5046 z8686 them according to all x3605 these x428 words, 1697 that x834 the king 4428 had commanded: 6680 z8765 so they left off speaking 2790 z8686 with x4480 him, for x3588 the matter 1697 was not x3808 perceiued. 8085 z8738

 38:28 So Ieremiah 3414 abode 3427 z8799 in the court 2691 of the prison, 4307 vntill x5704 the day 3117 that x834 Ierusalem 3389 was taken, 3920 z8738 and hee was x1961 [there] when x834 Ierusalem 3389 was taken. 3920 z8738
