1 Samuel 8

1 By occasion of the ill government of Samuel's sons, the Israelites ask a king. 6 Samuel praying in grief is comforted by God. 10 He telleth the manner of a king. 19 God willeth Samuel to yield unto the importunity of the people.

 8:1 ¶ And it came to passe, x1961 when x834 Samuel 8050 was old, 2204 z8804 that he made 7760 z8799 x853 his sonnes 1121 Iudges 8199 z8802 ouer Israel. 3478

 8:2 Now the name 8034 of his first borne 1060 y1121 was x1961 Ioel, 3100 and the name 8034 of his second, 4932 Abiah: 29 [they were] Iudges 8199 z8802 in Beer-sheba. 884

 8:3 And his sonnes 1121 walked 1980 z8804 not x3808 in his wayes, 1870 but turned aside 5186 z8799 after 310 lucre, 1215 and tooke 3947 z8799 bribes, 7810 & peruerted 5186 z8686 iudgement. 4941

 8:4 Then all x3605 the Elders 2205 of Israel 3478 gathered themselues together, 6908 z8691 and came 935 z8799 to x413 Samuel 8050 vnto Ramah, 7414

 8:5 And said 559 z8799 vnto x413 him, Behold, x2009 thou x859 art olde, 2204 z8804 and thy sonnes 1121 walke 1980 z8804 not x3808 in thy wayes: 1870 now x6258 make 7760 z8798 vs a King 4428 to iudge 8199 z8800 vs, like all x3605 the nations. 1471

 8:6 ¶ But the thing 1697 displeased 3415 5869 z8799 Samuel, 8050 when x834 they said, 559 z8804 Giue 5414 z8798 vs a King 4428 to iudge 8199 z8800 vs: and Samuel 8050 prayed 6419 z8691 vnto x413 the LORD. 3068

 8:7 And the LORD 3068 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Samuel, 8050 Hearken 8085 z8798 vnto the voyce 6963 of the people 5971 in all x3605 that x834 they say 559 z8799 vnto x413 thee: for x3588 they haue not x3808 reiected 3988 z8804 thee, but x3588 they haue reiected 3988 z8804 mee, that I should not reigne 4427 z8800 x4480 ouer x5921 them.

 8:8 According to all x3605 the works 4639 which x834 they haue done 6213 z8804 since the day 3117 x4480 that I brought them vp 5927 z8687 x853 out of Egypt 4714 x4480 euen vnto x5704 this x2088 day, 3117 wherewith they haue forsaken 5800 z8799 me, and serued 5647 z8799 other 312 gods: 430 so x3651 doe 6213 z8802 they x1992 also x1571 vnto thee.

 8:9 Nowe x6258 therefore hearken 8085 z8798 vnto their voyce: 6963 howbeit, 389 yet x3588 protest y5749 z8686 solemnly 5749 z8687 vnto them, and shew 5046 z8689 them the maner 4941 of the King 4428 that x834 shall reigne 4427 z8799 ouer x5921 them.

 8:10 ¶ And Samuel 8050 told 559 z8799 all x3605 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068 vnto x413 the people, 5971 that asked 7592 z8802 of x4480 x854 him a King. 4428

 8:11 And hee sayd, 559 z8799 This x2088 will be x1961 the maner 4941 of the king 4428 that x834 shall reigne 4427 z8799 ouer x5921 you: Hee will take 3947 z8799 x853 your sonnes, 1121 and appoint 7760 z8804 [them] for himselfe for his charets, 4818 and to bee his horsemen, 6571 and [some] shall runne 7323 z8804 before 6440 his charets. 4818

 8:12 And hee will appoint 7760 z8800 him Captaines 8269 ouer thousands, 505 and captaines 8269 ouer fifties, 2572 and [will set them] to eare 2790 z8800 his ground, 2758 and to reape 7114 z8800 his haruest, 7105 and to make 6213 z8800 his instruments 3627 of warre, 4421 and instruments 3627 of his charets. 7393

 8:13 And he will take 3947 z8799 your daughters 1323 to be confectionaries, 7548 and to be cookes, 2879 and to be bakers. 644 z8802

 8:14 And he will take 3947 z8799 your fields, 7704 and your vineyards, 3754 and your oliue-yards, 2132 [euen] the best 2896 [of them], and giue 5414 z8804 [them] to his seruants. 5650

 8:15 And he will take the tenth 6237 z8799 of your seed, 2233 and of your vineyards, 3754 and giue 5414 z8804 to his officers, 5631 and to his seruants. 5650

 8:16 And hee will take 3947 z8799 your men seruants, 5650 and your mayd seruants, 8198 and your goodliest 2896 young men, 970 and your asses, 2543 and put 6213 z8804 them to his worke. 4399

 8:17 Hee will take the tenth 6237 z8799 of your sheepe, 6629 and ye x859 shall be x1961 his seruants. 5650

 8:18 And ye shall cry out 2199 z8804 in that x1931 day, 3117 because 6440 x4480 of your king 4428 which x834 ye shall haue chosen 977 z8804 you; and the LORD 3068 will not x3808 heare 6030 z8799 you in that x1931 day. 3117

 8:19 ¶ Neuerthelesse, the people 5971 refused 3985 z8762 to obey 8085 z8800 the voyce 6963 of Samuel; 8050 and they said, 559 z8799 Nay, x3808 but x3588 x518 we will haue x1961 a King 4428 ouer x5921 vs:

 8:20 That we x587 also x1571 may be x1961 like all x3605 the nations, 1471 and that our King 4428 may iudge 8199 z8804 vs, and goe out 3318 z8804 before 6440 vs, and fight 3898 z8738 x853 our battels. 4421

 8:21 And Samuel 8050 heard 8085 z8799 x853 all x3605 the words 1697 of the people, 5971 and he rehearsed 1696 z8762 them in the eares 241 of the LORD. 3068

 8:22 And the LORD 3068 said 559 z8799 to x413 Samuel, 8050 Hearken 8085 z8798 vnto their voyce, 6963 and make y4427 z8689 them a King. 4428 x4427 And Samuel 8050 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 the men y582 x376 of Israel, 3478 Goe y3212 z8798 x1980 yee euery man 376 vnto his citie. 5892
