1 Samuel 1

1 Elkanah a Levite having two wives, worshippeth yearly at Shiloh. 4 He cherisheth Hannah, though barren, and provoked by Peninah. 9 Hannah in grief prayeth for a child. 12 Eli first rebuking her, afterwards blesseth her. 19 Hannah having born Samuel, stayeth at home till he be weaned. 24 She presenteth him, according to her vow, to the LORD.

 1:1 ¶ Now there was x1961 a certaine 259 man 376 of x4480 Ramathaim Zophim, 7436 of mount 2022 x4480 Ephraim, 669 & his name 8034 was Elkanah, 511 the sonne 1121 of Ieroham, 3395 the sonne 1121 of Elihu, 453 the sonne 1121 of Tohu, 8459 the sonne 1121 of Zuph, 6689 an Ephrathite; 673 x6733

 1:2 And he had two 8147 wiues, 802 the name 8034 of the one 259 [was] Hannah, 2584 and the name 8034 of the other 8145 Peninnah: 6444 and Peninnah 6444 had x1961 children, 3206 but Hannah 2584 had no x369 children. 3206

 1:3 And this 1931 man 376 went vp 5927 z8804 out of his citie 5892 x4480 yeerely, 3117 x4480 to worship 7812 z8692 and to sacrifice 2076 z8800 vnto the LORD 3068 of hostes 6635 in Shiloh; 7887 and the two 8147 sonnes 1121 of Eli, 5941 Hophni, 2652 and Phinehas, 6372 the Priests 3548 of the LORD, 3068 [were] there. x8033

 1:4 ¶ And when the time 3117 was, x1961 that Elkanah 511 offered, 2076 z8799 he gaue 5414 z8804 to Peninnah 6444 his wife, 802 and to all x3605 her sonnes, 1121 and her daughters, 1323 portions. 4490

 1:5 But vnto Hannah 2584 he gaue 5414 z8799 a 259 worthy 639 portion: 4490 (for x3588 he loued 157 z8804 x853 Hannah, 2584 but the LORD 3068 had shut vp 5462 z8804 her wombe. 7358

 1:6 And her aduersary 6869 also x1571 prouoked 3707 z8765 her sore, 3708 for to x5668 make her fret, 7481 z8687 because x3588 the LORD 3068 had shut y5462 z8804 vp 1157 x5462 her wombe.) 7358

 1:7 And [as] he did 6213 z8799 so x3651 yeere 8141 by yeere, 8141 when 1767 x4480 she went vp 5927 z8800 to the house 1004 x4480 of the LORD, 3068 so x3651 she prouoked 3707 z8686 her; therefore she wept, 1058 z8799 and did not x3808 eat. 398 z8799

 1:8 Then said 559 z8799 Elkanah 511 her husband 376 to her, Hannah, 2584 why x4100 weepest 1058 z8799 thou? and why x4100 eatest 398 z8799 thou not? x3808 and why x4100 is thy heart 3824 grieued? y3415 z8799 x7489 Am not x3808 I x595 better 2896 to thee, then ten 6235 x4480 sonnes? 1121

 1:9 ¶ So Hannah 2584 rose vp 6965 z8799 after 310 they had eaten 398 z8800 in Shiloh, 7887 and after 310 they had drunke; 8354 z8800 (now Eli 5941 the Priest 3548 sate 3427 z8802 vpon x5921 a seat 3678 by x5921 a poste 4201 of the Temple 1964 of the LORD.) 3068

 1:10 And shee x1931 was in bitternesse 4751 of soule, 5315 and prayed 6419 z8691 vnto x5921 the LORD, 3068 and wept y1058 z8799 sore. 1058 z8800

 1:11 And she vowed 5087 z8799 a vow, 5088 and said, 559 z8799 O LORD 3068 of hostes, 6635 if x518 thou wilt indeed y7200 z8800 looke 7200 z8799 on the affliction 6040 of thine handmayd, 519 and remember 2142 z8804 me, and not x3808 forget 7911 z8799 x853 thine handmayd, 519 but wilt giue 5414 z8804 vnto thine handmayd 519 a man y582 x376 childe, 2233 then I will giue 5414 z8804 him vnto the LORD 3068 all x3605 the dayes 3117 of his life, 2416 and there shall no x3808 rasor 4177 come 5927 z8799 vpon x5921 his head. 7218

 1:12 And it came to passe x1961 as x3588 she continued 7235 z8689 praying 6419 z8692 before 6440 the LORD, 3068 that Eli 5941 marked 8104 z8802 x853 her mouth. 6310

 1:13 Now Hannah, 2584 shee x1931 spake 1696 z8764 in x5921 her heart; 3820 onely x7535 her lippes 8193 mooued, 5128 z8801 but her voice 6963 was not x3808 heard: 8085 z8735 therefore Eli 5941 thought 2803 z8799 she had beene drunken. 7910

 1:14 And Eli 5941 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 her, How x5704 long x4970 wilt thou be drunken? 7937 z8691 put away 5493 z8685 x853 thy wine 3196 from x4480 x5921 thee.

 1:15 And Hannah 2584 answered, 6030 z8799 and said, 559 z8799 No, x3808 my lord, 113 I am a woman 802 of a sorrowfull 7186 spirit: 7307 I x595 haue drunke 8354 z8804 neither x3808 wine 3196 nor strong drinke, 7941 but haue powred out 8210 z8799 x853 my soule 5315 before 6440 the LORD. 3068

 1:16 Count 5414 z8799 not x408 x853 thine handmaid 519 for 6440 a daughter y1323 of Belial: 1100 x1323 for x3588 out of the abundance 7230 x4480 of my complaint 7879 and griefe, 3708 haue I spoken 1696 z8765 hitherto. x5704 x6258

 1:17 Then Eli 5941 answered, 6030 z8799 and said, 559 z8799 Goe y3212 z8798 x1980 in peace: 7965 and the God 430 of Israel 3478 grant 5414 z8799 thee x853 thy petition, 7596 that x834 thou hast asked 7592 z8804 of x4480 x5973 him.

 1:18 And she said, 559 z8799 Let thine handmaid 8198 finde 4672 z8799 grace 2580 in thy sight. 5869 So the woman 802 went y3212 z8799 x1980 her way, 1870 and did eate, 398 z8799 and her countenance 6440 was x1961 no x3808 more x5750 [sad].

 1:19 ¶ And they rose vp y7925 z0 in the morning y1242 early, 7925 z8686 x1242 and worshipped 7812 z8691 before 6440 the LORD, 3068 and returned, 7725 z8799 and came 935 z8799 to x413 their house 1004 to Ramah: 7414 and Elkanah 511 knewe 3045 z8799 x853 Hannah 2584 his wife, 802 and the LORD 3068 remembred 2142 z8799 her.

 1:20 Wherefore it came to passe x1961 when the time 3117 was come 8622 about, after Hannah 2584 had conceiued, 2029 z8799 that shee bare 3205 z8799 a sonne, 1121 and called 7121 z8799 x853 his name 8034 Samuel, 8050 [saying]; Because x3588 I haue asked 7592 z8804 him of the LORD. 3068 x4480

 1:21 And the man 376 Elkanah, 511 and all x3605 his house, 1004 went vp 5927 z8799 to offer 2076 z8800 vnto the LORD 3068 x853 the yeerely 3117 sacrifice, 2077 and his vowe. 5088

 1:22 But Hannah 2584 went not vp; 5927 z8804 x3808 for x3588 shee said 559 z8804 vnto her husband, 376 [I will not goe vp] vntill x5704 the childe 5288 be weaned, 1580 z8735 and [then] I will bring 935 z8689 him, that he may appeare 7200 z8738 x853 before 6440 the LORD, 3068 and there x8033 abide 3427 z8804 for y5704 euer. 5769 x5704

 1:23 And Elkanah 511 her husband 376 said 559 z8799 vnto her, Do 6213 z8798 what seemeth 5869 thee good, 2896 tary 3427 z8798 vntill x5704 thou haue weaned 1580 z8800 him, only x389 the LORD 3068 establish 6965 z8686 x853 his word: 1697 so the woman 802 abode, 3427 z8799 and gaue her sonne y1121 sucke 3243 z8686 x853 x1121 vntill x5704 she weaned 1580 z8800 him.

 1:24 ¶ And when x834 shee had weaned 1580 z8804 him, shee tooke him vp 5927 z8686 with x5973 her, with three 7969 bullocks, 6499 and one 259 Ephah 374 of floure, 7058 and a bottle 5035 of wine, 3196 and brought 935 z8686 him vnto the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 in Shiloh: 7887 and the childe 5288 [was] young. 5288

 1:25 And they slew 7819 z8799 x853 a bullocke, 6499 and brought 935 z8686 x853 the childe 5288 to x413 Eli. 5941

 1:26 And she said, 559 z8799 Oh 994 my lord, 113 as thy soule 5315 liueth, 2416 my lord, 113 I x589 [am] the woman, 802 that stood 5324 z8737 by x5973 thee heere, x2088 praying 6419 z8692 vnto x413 the LORD. 3068

 1:27 For x413 this x2088 childe 5288 I prayed, 6419 z8694 and the LORD 3068 hath giuen 5414 z8799 me x853 my petition, 7596 which x834 I asked 7592 z8804 of x4480 x5973 him:

 1:28 Therefore also x1571 I x595 haue lent 7592 z8689 him to the LORD 3068 as long x3605 as x834 hee liueth, 3117 he x1931 shall be x1961 lent 7592 z8803 to the LORD. 3068 And he worshipped 7812 z8691 the LORD 3068 there. x8033
