1 Samuel 20

1 David consulteth with Jonathan for his safety. 11 Jonathan and David renew their covenant by oath. 18 Jonathan's token to David, 24 Saul, missing David, seeketh to kill Jonathan. 35 Jonathan lovingly taketh his leave of David.

 20:1 ¶ And Dauid 1732 fled 1272 z8799 from Naioth 5121 x4480 in Ramah, 7414 and came 935 z8799 and said 559 z8799 before 6440 Ionathan, 3083 What x4100 haue I done? 6213 z8804 what x4100 [is] mine iniquity? 5771 and what x4100 [is] my sinne 2403 before 6440 thy father, 1 that x3588 he seeketh 1245 z8764 x853 my life? 5315

 20:2 And he said 559 z8799 vnto him, God forbid, 2486 thou shalt not x3808 die; 4191 z8799 beholde, x2009 my father 1 will doe 6213 z8799 z8675 z8804 nothing, 1697 x3808 either great 1419 or x176 small, 6996 but that he will shew 1540 z8799 y241 x3808 it x853 me: x241 and why x4069 should my father 1 hide 5641 z8686 x853 this x2088 thing 1697 from x4480 me? it x2063 [is] not x369 [so].

 20:3 And Dauid 1732 sware 7650 z8735 moreouer, x5750 and said, 559 z8799 Thy father 1 certeinly y3045 z8800 knoweth 3045 z8804 that x3588 I haue found 4672 z8804 grace 2580 in thine eyes, 5869 and he sayth, 559 z8799 Let not x408 Ionathan 3083 know 3045 z8799 this, x2063 lest x6435 he be grieued: 6087 z8735 but truely, 199 [as] the LORD 3068 liueth, 2416 and [as] thy soule 5315 liueth, 2416 there x3588 [is] but a step 6587 betweene x996 me & death. 4194

 20:4 Then said 559 z8799 Ionathan 3083 vnto x413 Dauid, 1732 Whatsoeuer x4100 thy soule 5315 desireth, 559 z8799 I will euen doe 6213 z8799 [it] for thee.

 20:5 And Dauid 1732 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ionathan, 3083 Behold, x2009 to morrow 4279 [is] the new moone, 2320 and I x595 should not faile y3427 z8800 to sit 3427 z8799 with x5973 the king 4428 at meate: 398 z8800 but let me goe, 7971 z8765 that I may hide y5641 z8738 my selfe x5641 in the fields 7704 vnto x5704 the third 7992 day at euen. 6153

 20:6 If x518 thy father 1 at all y6485 z8800 misse 6485 z8799 me, then say, 559 z8804 Dauid 1732 earnestly y7592 z8736 asked 7592 z8738 [leaue] of x4480 me that he might runne 7323 z8800 to Bethlehem 1035 his citie: 5892 for x3588 [there is] a yeerely 3117 sacrifice 2077 there x8033 for all x3605 the family. 4940

 20:7 If x518 he say 559 z8799 thus, x3541 [It is] well, 2896 thy seruant 5650 shall haue peace: 7965 but if x518 he be very y2734 z8800 wroth, 2734 z8799 then be sure 3045 z8798 that x3588 euill 7451 is determined 3615 z8804 by x4480 x5973 him.

 20:8 Therefore thou shalt deale 6213 z8804 kindly 2617 with x5921 thy seruant, 5650 for x3588 thou hast brought 935 z8689 x853 thy seruant 5650 into a couenant 1285 of the LORD 3068 with x5973 thee: notwithstanding, if x518 there be 3426 in me iniquitie, 5771 slay 4191 z8685 me thy selfe: x859 for x5704 why x4100 shouldest thou bring 935 z8686 me to thy father? 1

 20:9 And Ionathan 3083 said, 559 z8799 Farre be it x2486 from thee: y2486 for x3588 if x518 I knew y3045 z8799 certainely 3045 z8800 that x3588 euill 7451 were determined 3615 z8804 by x4480 x5973 my father 1 to come 935 z8800 vpon x5921 thee, then would not x3808 I tell 5046 z8686 it thee?

 20:10 Then said 559 z8799 Dauid 1732 to x413 Ionathan, 3083 Who x4310 shall tell 5046 z8686 me? or x176 what x4100 [if] thy father 1 answere 6030 z8799 thee roughly? 7186

 20:11 ¶ And Ionathan 3083 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Dauid, 1732 Come, y3212 z8798 x1980 and let vs goe out 3318 z8799 into the field. 7704 And they went out 3318 z8799 both 8147 of them into the field. 7704

 20:12 And Ionathan 3083 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Dauid, 1732 O LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 when x3588 I haue sounded 2713 z8799 x853 my father, 1 about to morrow 4279 any time, 6256 [or] the third 7992 day, and behold, x2009 [if there be] good y2895 z8804 x2896 toward x413 Dauid, 1732 and I then x227 send 7971 z8799 not x3808 vnto x413 thee, and shew y1540 z8804 y241 it thee; x1540 x853 x241

 20:13 The LORD 3068 doe 6213 z8799 so 3541 and much x3541 more 3254 z8686 to Ionathan: 3083 but if x3588 it please 3190 z8686 x413 my father 1 to doe thee x853 euill, 7451 then I wil shew y1540 z8804 y241 it thee, x1540 x853 x241 and send thee away, 7971 z8765 that thou mayest goe 1980 z8804 in peace, 7965 and the LORD 3068 be x1961 with x5973 thee, as x834 hee hath beene x1961 with x5973 my father. 1

 20:14 And thou shalt not x3808 onely while x518 yet y518 x5750 I liue, 2416 shew 6213 z8799 x5973 me the kindnesse 2617 of the LORD, 3068 that I die 4191 z8799 not: x3808

 20:15 But [also] thou shalt not x3808 cut off 3772 z8686 x853 thy kindnesse 2617 from x4480 x5973 my house 1004 for y5704 euer: 5769 x5704 no not x3808 when the LORD 3068 hath cut off 3772 z8687 x853 the enemies 341 z8802 of Dauid, 1732 euery one 376 from the face 6440 x4480 x5921 of the earth. 127

 20:16 So Ionathan 3083 made 3772 z8799 [a couenant] with x5973 the house 1004 of Dauid, 1732 [saying], Let the LORD 3068 euen require 1245 z8765 [it] at the hande 3027 x4480 of Dauids 1732 enemies. 341 z8802

 20:17 And Ionathan 3083 caused x853 Dauid 1732 to sweare 7650 z8687 againe, 3254 z8686 because he loued 160 him: for x3588 he loued 157 z8804 him as he loued 160 his owne soule. 5315

 20:18 Then Ionathan 3083 said 559 z8799 to Dauid, y1732 To morrow 4279 [is] the newe moone: 2320 and thou shalt be missed, 6485 z8738 because x3588 thy seat 4186 wil be emptie. 6485 z8735

 20:19 And when thou hast stayed three dayes, 8027 z8765 then thou shalt goe downe 3381 z8799 quickly, 3966 and come 935 z8804 to x413 the place 4725 where x834 thou diddest hide y5641 z8738 thy selfe, x5641 when 3117 x8033 the businesse 4639 was [in hand], and shalt remaine 3427 z8804 by 681 the stone 68 Ezel. 237

 20:20 And I x589 will shoot 3384 z8686 three 7969 arrowes 2671 on the side 6654 [thereof], as though I shot 7971 z8763 at a marke. 4307

 20:21 And behold, x2009 I will send 7971 z8799 x853 a ladde, 5288 [saying], Goe, y3212 z8798 x1980 find out 4672 z8798 x853 the arrowes. 2671 If x518 I expresly y559 z8800 say 559 z8799 vnto the lad, 5288 Behold, x2009 the arrowes 2671 [are] on this side x4480 x2008 of thee, take 3947 z8798 them: then come 935 z8798 thou, for x3588 there is peace 7965 to thee, and no x369 hurt, 1697 [as] the LORD 3068 liueth. 2416

 20:22 But if x518 I say 559 z8799 thus x3541 vnto the yong man, 5958 Behold, x2009 the arrowes 2671 [are] beyond 1973 x4480 thee: goe thy way, y3212 z8798 x1980 for x3588 the LORD 3068 hath sent thee away. 7971 z8765

 20:23 And as touching the matter 1697 which x834 thou x859 and I x589 haue spoken 1696 z8765 of, behold, x2009 the LORD 3068 [be] betweene x996 thee and mee for y5704 euer. 5769 x5704

 20:24 ¶ So Dauid 1732 hid y5641 z8735 himselfe x5641 in the field: 7704 and when the newe moone 2320 was come, x1961 the king 4428 sate him downe 3427 z8799 to eate 398 z8800 meate. 3899

 20:25 And the king 4428 sate 3427 z8799 vpon x5921 his seate, 4186 as at other times, 6471 [euen] vpon x413 a seate 4186 by the wall: 7023 and Ionathan 3083 arose, 6965 z8799 and Abner 74 sate 3427 z8799 by Sauls 7586 side, 6654 x4480 and Dauids 1732 place 4725 was emptie. 6485 z8735

 20:26 Neuerthelesse, Saul 7586 spake 1696 z8765 not x3808 any thing 3972 that x1931 day: 3117 for x3588 hee thought, 559 z8804 Some thing hath befallen 4745 him, hee x1931 is not 1115 cleane; 2889 surely x3588 he is not x3808 cleane. 2889

 20:27 And it came to passe x1961 on the morrow 4283 x4480 [which was] the second 8145 day of the moneth, 2320 that Dauids 1732 place 4725 was emptie: 6485 z8735 and Saul 7586 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ionathan 3083 his sonne, 1121 Wherefore x4069 commeth 935 z8804 not x3808 the sonne 1121 of Iesse 3448 to x413 meat, 3899 neither x1571 yesterday 8543 nor x1571 to day? 3117

 20:28 And Ionathan 3083 answered 6030 z8799 x853 Saul, 7586 Dauid 1732 earnestly y7592 z8736 asked 7592 z8738 [leaue] of x4480 x5973 me, y5978 [to goe] to x5704 Bethlehem. 1035

 20:29 And he said, 559 z8799 Let me goe, 7971 z8761 I pray thee, x4994 for x3588 our familie 4940 hath a sacrifice 2077 in the citie, 5892 and my brother, 251 hee x1931 hath commanded 6680 z8765 mee [to be there]: and now x6258 if x518 I haue found 4672 z8804 fauour 2580 in thine eyes, 5869 let me get away, 4422 z8735 I pray thee, x4994 and see 7200 z8799 x853 my brethren: 251 Therefore x5921 x3651 he commeth 935 z8804 not x3808 vnto x413 the kings 4428 table. 7979

 20:30 Then Sauls 7586 anger 639 was kindled 2734 z8799 against Ionathan, 3083 and hee said 559 z8799 vnto him, Thou sonne 1121 of the peruerse 5753 z8737 rebellious 4780 [woman], doe not x3808 I know 3045 z8804 that x3588 thou x859 hast chosen 977 z8802 the sonne 1121 of Iesse 3448 to thine owne confusion, 1322 and vnto the confusion 1322 of thy mothers 517 nakednesse? 6172

 20:31 For x3588 as long x3605 x3117 as y3117 x834 the sonne 1121 of Iesse 3448 liueth y2425 z8804 x2416 vpon x5921 the ground, 127 thou x859 shalt not x3808 be stablished, 3559 z8735 nor thy kingdome: 4438 wherefore now x6258 send 7971 z8798 and fetch 3947 z8798 x853 him vnto x413 mee, for x3588 he x1931 shall surely die. 1121 4194

 20:32 And Ionathan 3083 answered 6030 z8799 x853 Saul 7586 his father, 1 and said 559 z8799 vnto x413 him, Wherefore x4100 shall hee be slaine? 4191 z8714 what x4100 hath hee done? 6213 z8804

 20:33 And Saul 7586 cast 2904 z8686 x853 a iauelin 2595 at x5921 him to smite 5221 z8687 him, whereby Ionathan 3083 knewe 3045 z8799 that x3588 it x1931 was determined y3617 x3615 of x4480 x5973 his father 1 to slay 4191 z8687 x853 Dauid. 1732

 20:34 So Ionathan 3083 arose 6965 z8799 from x4480 x5973 the table 7979 in fierce 2750 anger, 639 and did eate 398 z8804 no x3808 meat 3899 the second 8145 day 3117 of the moneth: 2320 for x3588 hee was grieued 6087 z8738 for x413 Dauid, 1732 because x3588 his father 1 had done him shame. 3637 z8689

 20:35 ¶ And it came to passe x1961 in the morning, 1242 that Ionathan 3083 went out 3318 z8799 into the field, 7704 at the time appointed 4150 with Dauid, 1732 and a little 6996 ladde 5288 with x5973 him.

 20:36 And he said 559 z8799 vnto his lad, 5288 Runne, 7323 z8798 finde out 4672 z8798 now x4994 x853 the arrowes 2671 which x834 I x595 shoote. 3384 z8688 And as the ladde 5288 ranne, 7323 z8801 he x1931 shot 3384 z8804 an arrow 2678 beyond 5674 z8687 him.

 20:37 And when the ladde 5288 was come 935 z8799 to x5704 the place 4725 of the arrow, 2678 which x834 Ionathan 3083 had shot, 3384 z8804 Ionathan 3083 cryed 7121 z8799 after 310 the ladde, 5288 and said, 559 z8799 Is not x3808 the arrow 2678 beyond 1973 x4480 thee?

 20:38 And Ionathan 3083 cryed 7121 z8799 after 310 the ladde, 5288 Make speed, y4120 x2363 haste, y2363 z8798 x4120 stay 5975 z8799 not. x408 And Ionathans 3083 ladde 5288 gathered vp 3950 z8762 x853 the arrowes, 2678 y2671 z8675 and came 935 z8799 to x413 his master. 113

 20:39 But the lad 5288 knew 3045 z8804 not x3808 any thing: 3972 onely x389 Ionathan 3083 and Dauid 1732 knew 3045 z8804 x853 the matter. 1697

 20:40 And Ionathan 3083 gaue 5414 z8799 x853 his artillery 3627 vnto x413 his x834 ladde, 5288 and said 559 z8799 vnto him, Goe, y3212 z8798 x1980 cary 935 z8685 [them] to the citie. 5892

 20:41 ¶ And assoone as the ladde 5288 was gone, 935 z8802 Dauid 1732 arose 6965 z8804 out of [a place] toward 681 x4480 the South, 5045 and fell 5307 z8799 on his face 639 to the ground, 776 and bowed y7812 z8691 himselfe x7812 three 7969 times: 6471 and they kissed 5401 z8799 one 376 x853 another, 7453 and wept 1058 z8799 one 376 with x854 another, 7453 vntill x5704 Dauid 1732 exceeded. 1431 z8689

 20:42 And Ionathan 3083 said 559 z8799 to Dauid, 1732 Goe y3212 z8798 x1980 in peace, 7965 forasmuch as x834 wee haue sworne 7650 z8738 both 8147 of vs x587 in the Name 8034 of the LORD, 3068 saying; 559 z8800 The LORD 3068 be x1961 betweene x996 me and thee, and betweene x996 my seede 2233 and thy seede 2233 for y5704 euer. 5769 x5704 And hee arose, 6965 z8799 and departed: y3212 z8799 x1980 and Ionathan 3083 went 935 z8802 into the citie. 5892
