1 Chronicles 19

1 David's messengers, sent to comfort Hanun the son of Nahash, are villainously entreated. 6 The Ammonites, strengthened by the Syrians, are overcome by Joab and Abishai. 16 Shophach, making a new supply of the Syrians, is slain by David.

 19:1 ¶ Now it came to passe x1961 after x310 this, y310 x3651 that Nahash 5176 the King 4428 of the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 dyed, 4191 z8799 & his sonne 1121 reigned 4427 z8799 in his stead. x8478

 19:2 And Dauid 1732 sayde, 559 z8799 I will shewe 6213 z8799 kindnesse 2617 vnto x5973 Hanun 2586 the sonne 1121 of Nahash, 5176 because x3588 his father 1 shewed 6213 z8804 kindnesse 2617 to x5973 mee. And Dauid 1732 sent 7971 z8799 messengers 4397 to comfort 5162 z8763 him concerning x5921 his father. 1 So the seruants 5650 of Dauid 1732 came 935 z8799 into x413 the land 776 of the children 1121 of Ammon, 5983 to x413 Hanun, 2586 to comfort 5162 z8763 him.

 19:3 But the Princes 8269 of the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 sayde 559 z8799 to Hanun, 2586 Thinkest 5869 thou that Dauid 1732 doeth honour 3513 z8764 x853 thy father, 1 that x3588 he hath sent 7971 z8804 comforters 5162 z8764 vnto thee? Are not x3808 his seruants 5650 come 935 z8804 vnto x413 thee for x5668 to search, 2713 z8800 and to ouerthrow, 2015 z8800 and to spie out 7270 z8763 the land? 776

 19:4 Wherefore Hanun 2586 tooke 3947 z8799 x853 Dauids 1732 seruants, 5650 and shaued 1548 z8762 them, and cut off 3772 z8799 x853 their garments 4063 in the middest, 2677 hard by x5704 their buttockes, 4667 and sent them away. 7971 z8762

 19:5 Then there went y3212 z8799 x1980 certeine, and told 5046 z8686 Dauid, 1732 how x5921 the men y582 x376 were serued, and hee sent 7971 z8799 to meet 7125 z8800 them (for x3588 the men y582 x376 were x1961 greatly 3966 ashamed) 3637 z8737 and the King 4428 sayde, 559 z8799 Tary 3427 z8798 at Iericho 3405 vntill x5704 x834 your beards 2206 be growen, 6779 z8762 [and] then returne. 7725 z8804

 19:6 ¶ And when the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 sawe, 7200 z8799 that x3588 they had made themselues odious 887 z8694 to x5973 Dauid; 1732 Hanun 2586 and the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 sent 7971 z8799 a thousand 505 talents 3603 of siluer, 3701 to hire 7936 z8800 them charets 7393 and horsemen 6571 out of x4480 Mesopotamia, 763 and out of x4480 Syria-Maachah, 758 4601 and out of Zobah. 6678 x4480

 19:7 So they hired 7936 z8799 thirtie 7970 and two 8147 thousand 505 charets, 7393 and the king 4428 of Maachah 4601 and his people, 5971 who came 935 z8799 and pitched 2583 z8799 before 6440 Medeba. 4311 And the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 gathered themselues together 622 z8738 from their cities, 5892 x4480 and came 935 z8799 to battaile. 4421

 19:8 And when Dauid 1732 heard 8085 z8799 [of it], hee sent 7971 z8799 x853 Ioab, 3097 and all x3605 the host 6635 of the mightie men. 1368

 19:9 And the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 came out, 3318 z8799 and put the battell y4421 in aray 6186 z8799 x4421 before the gate 6607 of the citie, 5892 and the kings 4428 that x834 were come, 935 z8804 [were] by themselues x905 in the field. 7704

 19:10 Now when Ioab 3097 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 the battell 4421 x6440 was set x1961 against x413 him, before 6440 and behinde: 268 hee chose x977 out y977 z8799 of all x4480 x3605 the choice 977 z8803 of Israel, 3478 and put them in aray 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 the Syrians. 758

 19:11 And the rest 3499 of the people 5971 hee deliuered 5414 z8804 vnto the hand 3027 of Abishai 52 his brother, 251 and they set themselues in aray 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 the children 1121 of Ammon. 5983

 19:12 And he said, 559 z8799 If x518 the Syrians 758 bee too strong 2388 z8799 for x4480 me, then thou shalt helpe 8668 x1961 me: but if x518 the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 be too strong 2388 z8799 for x4480 thee, then I wil helpe 3467 z8689 thee.

 19:13 Be of good courage, 2388 z8798 and let vs behaue our selues valiantly 2388 z8691 for x1157 our people, 5971 and for x1157 the Cities 5892 of our God: 430 and let the LORD 3068 do 6213 z8799 that [which is] good 2896 in his sight. 5869

 19:14 So Ioab 3097 and the people 5971 that x834 [were] with x5973 him, drew nigh 5066 z8799 before 6440 the Syrians, 758 vnto the battell; 4421 and they fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 x4480 him.

 19:15 And when the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 saw 7200 z8804 that x3588 the Syrians 758 were fled, 5127 z8804 they x1992 likewise x1571 fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 x4480 Abishai 52 his brother, 251 and entred 935 z8799 into the city. 5892 Then Ioab 3097 came 935 z8799 to Ierusalem. 3389

 19:16 ¶ And when the Syrians 758 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 they were put to the worse 5062 z8738 before 6440 Israel, 3478 they sent 7971 z8799 messengers, 4397 and drew forth 3318 z8686 x853 the Syrians, 758 that x834 [were] beyond 5676 x4480 the Riuer: 5104 and Shophach 7780 the captaine 8269 of the hoste 6635 of Hadarezer, 1928 [went] before 6440 them.

 19:17 And it was tolde 5046 z8714 Dauid, 1732 and hee gathered 622 z8799 x853 all x3605 Israel, 3478 and passed ouer 5674 z8799 Iordane, 3383 and came 935 z8799 vpon x413 them, and set [the battell] in aray 6186 z8799 x4421 against x413 them: so when Dauid 1732 had put the battell y4421 in aray 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 the Syrians, 758 they fought 3898 z8735 with x5973 him.

 19:18 But the Syrians 758 fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 x4480 Israel, 3478 and Dauid 1732 slew 2026 z8799 of the Syrians 758 x4480 seuen 7651 thousand 505 men, [which fought] in charets, 7393 and fourty 705 thousand 505 footmen, 376 7273 and killed 4191 z8689 Shophach 7780 the captaine 8269 of the hoste. 6635

 19:19 And when the seruants 5650 of Hadarezer 1928 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 they were put to the worse 5062 z8738 before 6440 Israel, 3478 they made peace 7999 z8686 with x5973 Dauid, 1732 and became his seruants: 5647 z8799 neither x3808 would 14 z8804 the Syrians 758 helpe 3467 z8687 x853 the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 any more. x5750
