Jeremiah 40

1 Jeremiah, being set free by Nebuzar-adan, goeth to Gedaliah. 7 The dispersed Jews repair unto him. 13 Johanan revealing Ishmael's conspiracy is not believed.

 40:1 ¶ The word 1697 that x834 came x1961 to x413 Jeremiah 3414 from x4480 x854 the LORD, 3068 after y310 that x310 Nebuzaradan 5018 the captain 7227 of the guard 2876 had let him go 7971 z8763 from x4480 Ramah, 7414 when he had taken 3947 z8800 him being bound 631 z8803 in chains 246 among 8432 all x3605 that were carried away captive 1546 of Jerusalem 3389 and Judah, 3063 which were carried away captive 1540 z8716 unto Babylon. 894

 40:2 And the captain 7227 of the guard 2876 took 3947 z8799 Jeremiah, 3414 and said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, The LORD 3068 thy God 430 hath pronounced 1696 z8765 x853 this x2063 evil 7451 upon x413 this x2088 place. 4725

 40:3 Now the LORD 3068 hath brought 935 z8686 [it], and done 6213 z8799 according as x834 he hath said: 1696 z8765 because x3588 ye have sinned 2398 z8804 against the LORD, 3068 and have not x3808 obeyed 8085 z8804 his voice, 6963 therefore this x2088 thing 1697 is come x1961 upon you.

 40:4 And now, x6258 behold, x2009 I loose 6605 z8765 thee this day 3117 from x4480 the chains 246 which x834 [were] upon x5921 thine hand. 3027 If x518 it seem good y2896 y5869 unto thee x2896 x5869 to come 935 z8800 with x854 me into Babylon, 894 come; 935 z8798 and I will look well 7760 5869 z8799 x853 unto x5921 thee: but if x518 it seem ill y7489 z8804 y5869 unto thee x7489 x5869 to come 935 z8800 with x854 me into Babylon, 894 forbear: 2308 z8798 behold, 7200 z8798 all x3605 the land 776 [is] before 6440 thee: whither x413 it seemeth y413 x5869 good 2896 and convenient 3477 y5869 for thee to go, y3212 z8800 x1980 thither x8033 go. y3212 z8798 x1980

 40:5 Now while he was not x3808 yet x5750 gone back, 7725 z8799 [he said], Go back 7725 z8798 also to x413 Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 the son 1121 of Shaphan, 8227 whom x834 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 hath made governor 6485 z8689 over the cities 5892 of Judah, 3063 and dwell 3427 z8798 with x854 him among 8432 the people: 5971 or x176 go y3212 z8798 x1980 wheresoever x413 x3605 it seemeth x5869 convenient 3477 y5869 unto thee to go. y3212 z8800 x1980 So the captain 7227 of the guard 2876 gave 5414 z8799 him victuals 737 and a reward, 4864 and let him go. 7971 z8762

 40:6 Then went 935 z8799 Jeremiah 3414 unto x413 Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 to Mizpah; 4708 and dwelt 3427 z8799 with x854 him among 8432 the people 5971 that were left 7604 z8737 in the land. 776

 40:7 ¶ Now when all x3605 the captains 8269 of the forces 2428 which x834 [were] in the fields, 7704 [even] they x1992 and their men, y582 x376 heard 8085 z8799 that x3588 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 had made x853 Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 governor 6485 z8689 in the land, 776 and x3588 had committed 6485 z8689 unto x854 him men, y582 x376 and women, 802 and children, 2945 and of the poor 1803 x4480 of the land, 776 of them that x4480 x834 were not x3808 carried away captive 1540 z8717 to Babylon; 894

 40:8 Then they came 935 z8799 to x413 Gedaliah 1436 to Mizpah, 4708 even Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah, 5418 and Johanan 3110 and Jonathan 3129 the sons 1121 of Kareah, 7143 and Seraiah 8304 the son 1121 of Tanhumeth, 8576 and the sons 1121 of Ephai 5778 the Netophathite, 5200 and Jezaniah 3153 the son 1121 of a Maachathite, 4602 they x1992 and their men. y582 x376

 40:9 And Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 the son 1121 of Shaphan 8227 sware 7650 z8735 unto them and to their men, y582 x376 saying, 559 z8800 Fear 3372 z8799 not x408 to serve 5647 z8800 x4480 the Chaldeans: 3778 dwell x3427 in y3427 z8798 the land, 776 and serve 5647 z8798 x853 the king 4428 of Babylon, 894 and it shall be well 3190 z8799 with you.

 40:10 As for me, x589 behold, x2009 I will dwell 3427 z8802 at Mizpah 4709 to serve 5975 6440 z8800 the Chaldeans, 3778 which x834 will come 935 z8799 unto x413 us: but ye, x859 gather 622 z8798 ye wine, 3196 and summer fruits, 7019 and oil, 8081 and put 7760 z8798 [them] in your vessels, 3627 and dwell 3427 z8798 in your cities 5892 that x834 ye have taken. 8610 z8804

 40:11 Likewise x1571 when all x3605 the Jews 3064 that x834 [were] in Moab, 4124 and among the Ammonites, 5983 x1121 and in Edom, 123 and that x834 [were] in all x3605 the countries, 776 heard 8085 z8804 that x3588 the king 4428 of Babylon 894 had left 5414 z8804 a remnant 7611 of Judah, 3063 and that x3588 he had set 6485 z8689 over x5921 them x853 Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 the son 1121 of Shaphan; 8227

 40:13 ¶ Moreover Johanan 3110 the son 1121 of Kareah, 7143 and all x3605 the captains 8269 of the forces 2428 that x834 [were] in the fields, 7704 came 935 z8804 to x413 Gedaliah 1436 to Mizpah, 4708

 40:14 And said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, Dost thou certainly y3045 z8800 know 3045 z8799 that x3588 Baalis 1185 the king 4428 of the Ammonites 1121 5983 hath sent 7971 z8804 x853 Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah 5418 to slay 5221 5315 z8687 thee? But Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 believed 539 z8689 them not. x3808

 40:15 Then Johanan 3110 the son 1121 of Kareah 7143 spake 559 z8804 to x413 Gedaliah 1436 in Mizpah 4709 secretly, 5643 saying, 559 z8800 Let me go, y3212 z8799 x1980 I pray thee, x4994 and I will slay 5221 z8686 x853 Ishmael 3458 the son 1121 of Nethaniah, 5418 and no x3808 man 376 shall know 3045 z8799 [it]: wherefore x4100 should he slay 5221 5315 z8686 thee, that all x3605 the Jews y3064 x3063 which are gathered 6908 z8737 unto x413 thee should be scattered, 6327 z8738 and the remnant 7611 in Judah 3063 perish? 6 z8804

 40:16 But Gedaliah 1436 the son 1121 of Ahikam 296 said 559 z8799 unto x413 Johanan 3110 the son 1121 of Kareah, 7143 Thou shalt not x408 do 6213 z8799 x853 this x2088 thing: 1697 for x3588 thou x859 speakest 1696 z8802 falsely 8267 of x413 Ishmael. 3458
