Jeremiah 20

1 Pashur, smiting Jeremiah, receiveth a new name, and a fearful doom. 7 Jeremiah complaineth of contempt, 10 of treachery, 14 and of his birth.

 20:1 ¶ Now Pashur 6583 the son 1121 of Immer 564 the priest, 3548 who x1931 [was] also chief y6496 x5057 governor y5057 x6496 in the house 1004 of the LORD, 3068 heard 8085 z8799 that x853 Jeremiah 3414 prophesied 5012 z8738 x853 these x428 things. 1697

 20:2 Then Pashur 6583 smote 5221 z8686 x853 Jeremiah 3414 the prophet, 5030 and put 5414 z8799 him in x5921 the stocks 4115 that x834 [were] in the high 5945 gate 8179 of Benjamin, 1144 which x834 [was] by the house 1004 of the LORD. 3068

 20:3 And it came to pass x1961 on the morrow, 4283 x4480 that Pashur 6583 brought forth 3318 z8686 x853 Jeremiah 3414 out of x4480 the stocks. 4115 Then said 559 z8799 Jeremiah 3414 unto x413 him, The LORD 3068 hath not x3808 called 7121 z8804 thy name 8034 Pashur, 6583 but x3588 x518 Magormissabib. 4036

 20:4 For x3588 thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD, 3068 Behold, x2009 I will make 5414 z8802 thee a terror 4032 to thyself, and to all x3605 thy friends: 157 z8802 and they shall fall 5307 z8804 by the sword 2719 of their enemies, 341 z8802 and thine eyes 5869 shall behold 7200 z8802 [it]: and I will give 5414 z8799 all x3605 Judah 3063 into the hand 3027 of the king 4428 of Babylon, 894 and he shall carry them captive 1540 z8689 into Babylon, 894 and shall slay 5221 z8689 them with the sword. 2719

 20:5 Moreover I will deliver 5414 z8804 x853 all x3605 the strength 2633 of this x2063 city, 5892 and all x3605 the labours 3018 thereof, and all x3605 the precious things 3366 thereof, and all x3605 the treasures 214 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 will I give 5414 z8799 into the hand 3027 of their enemies, 341 z8802 which shall spoil 962 z8804 them, and take 3947 z8804 them, and carry 935 z8689 them to Babylon. 894

 20:6 And thou, x859 Pashur, 6583 and all x3605 that dwell 3427 z8802 in thine house 1004 shall go y3212 z8799 x1980 into captivity: 7628 and thou shalt come 935 z8799 to Babylon, 894 and there x8033 thou shalt die, 4191 z8799 and shalt be buried 6912 z8735 there, x8033 thou, x859 and all x3605 thy friends, 157 z8802 to whom x834 thou hast prophesied 5012 z8738 lies. 8267

 20:7 ¶ O LORD, 3068 thou hast deceived 6601 z8765 me, and I was deceived: 6601 z8735 thou art stronger 2388 z8804 than I, and hast prevailed: 3201 z8799 I am x1961 in derision 7814 daily, 3117 x3605 every one x3605 mocketh 3932 z8802 me.

 20:8 For x3588 since 1767 x4480 I spake, 1696 z8762 I cried out, 2199 z8799 I cried 7121 z8799 violence 2555 and spoil; 7701 because x3588 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068 was made x1961 a reproach 2781 unto me, and a derision, 7047 daily. 3117 x3605

 20:9 Then I said, 559 z8804 I will not x3808 make mention 2142 z8799 of him, nor x3808 speak 1696 z8762 any more x5750 in his name. 8034 But [his word] was x1961 in mine heart 3820 as a burning 1197 z8802 fire 784 shut up 6113 z8803 in my bones, 6106 and I was weary 3811 z8738 with forbearing, 3557 z8771 and I could 3201 z8799 not x3808 [stay].

 20:10 ¶ For x3588 I heard 8085 z8804 the defaming 1681 of many, 7227 fear 4032 on every side. 5439 x4480 Report, 5046 z8685 [say they], and we will report 5046 z8686 it. All x3605 my familiars 582 7965 watched 8104 z8802 for my halting, 6761 y6763 z8676 [saying], Peradventure x194 he will be enticed, 6601 z8792 and we shall prevail 3201 z8799 against him, and we shall take 3947 z8799 our revenge 5360 on x4480 him.

 20:11 But the LORD 3068 [is] with x854 me as a mighty 1368 terrible one: 6184 therefore x5921 x3651 my persecutors 7291 z8802 shall stumble, 3782 z8735 and they shall not x3808 prevail: 3201 z8799 they shall be greatly 3966 ashamed; 954 z8804 for x3588 they shall not x3808 prosper: 7919 z8689 [their] everlasting 5769 confusion 3639 shall never x3808 be forgotten. 7911 z8735

 20:12 But, O LORD 3068 of hosts, 6635 that triest 974 z8802 the righteous, 6662 [and] seest 7200 z8802 the reins 3629 and the heart, 3820 let me see 7200 z8799 thy vengeance 5360 on x4480 them: for x3588 unto x413 thee have I opened 1540 z8765 x853 my cause. 7379

 20:13 Sing 7891 z8798 unto the LORD, 3068 praise 1984 z8761 ye x853 the LORD: 3068 for x3588 he hath delivered 5337 z8689 x853 the soul 5315 of the poor 34 from the hand 3027 x4480 of evildoers. 7489 z8688

 20:14 ¶ Cursed 779 z8803 [be] the day 3117 wherein x834 I was born: 3205 z8795 let not x408 the day 3117 wherein x834 my mother 517 bare 3205 z8804 me be x1961 blessed. 1288 z8803

 20:15 Cursed 779 z8803 [be] the man 376 who x834 brought tidings 1319 z8765 to x853 my father, 1 saying, 559 z8800 A man 2145 child 1121 is born 3205 z8795 unto thee; making him very y8055 z8763 glad. 8055 z8765

 20:16 And let that x1931 man 376 be x1961 as the cities 5892 which x834 the LORD 3068 overthrew, 2015 z8804 and repented 5162 z8738 not: x3808 and let him hear 8085 z8804 the cry 2201 in the morning, 1242 and the shouting 8643 at noontide; 6256 6672

 20:17 Because x834 he slew 4191 z8790 me not x3808 from the womb; 7358 x4480 or that my mother 517 might have been x1961 my grave, 6913 and her womb 7358 [to be] always 5769 great 2030 [with me].

 20:18 Wherefore x4100 came I forth 3318 z8804 out of the womb 7358 x4480 to see 7200 z8800 labour 5999 and sorrow, 3015 that my days 3117 should be consumed 3615 z8799 with shame? 1322
