1 Samuel 23

1 David, enquiring of the LORD by Abiathar, rescueth Keilah. 7 God shewing him the coming of Saul, and the treachery of the Keilites, he escapeth from Keilah. 14 In Ziph Jonathan cometh and comforteth him. 19 The Ziphites discover him to Saul. 25 At Maon he is rescued from Saul by the invasion of the Philistines. 29 He dwelleth at En-gedi.

 23:1 ¶ Then they told 5046 z8686 David, 1732 saying, 559 z8800 Behold, x2009 the Philistines 6430 fight 3898 z8737 against Keilah, 7084 and they x1992 rob 8154 z8802 x853 the threshingfloors. 1637

 23:2 Therefore David 1732 enquired 7592 z8799 of the LORD, 3068 saying, 559 z8800 Shall I go y3212 z8799 x1980 and smite 5221 z8689 these x428 Philistines? 6430 And the LORD 3068 said 559 z8799 unto x413 David, 1732 Go, y3212 z8798 x1980 and smite 5221 z8689 the Philistines, 6430 and save 3467 z8689 x853 Keilah. 7084

 23:3 And David's 1732 men y582 x376 said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, Behold, x2009 we x587 be afraid y3373 x3372 here x6311 in Judah: 3063 how much x637 more then if x3588 we come y3212 z8799 x1980 to Keilah 7084 against x413 the armies 4634 of the Philistines? 6430

 23:4 Then David 1732 enquired 7592 z8800 of the LORD 3068 yet x5750 again. 3254 z8686 And the LORD 3068 answered 6030 z8799 him and said, 559 z8799 Arise, 6965 z8798 go down 3381 z8798 to Keilah; 7084 for x3588 I x589 will deliver 5414 z8802 x853 the Philistines 6430 into thine hand. 3027

 23:5 So David 1732 and his men y582 x376 went y3212 z8799 x1980 to Keilah, 7084 and fought 3898 z8735 with the Philistines, 6430 and brought away 5090 z8799 x853 their cattle, 4735 and smote 5221 z8686 them with a great 1419 slaughter. 4347 So David 1732 saved 3467 z8686 x853 the inhabitants 3427 z8802 of Keilah. 7084

 23:6 And it came to pass, x1961 when Abiathar 54 the son 1121 of Ahimelech 288 fled 1272 z8800 to x413 David 1732 to Keilah, 7084 [that] he came down 3381 z8804 [with] an ephod 646 in his hand. 3027

 23:7 ¶ And it was told 5046 z8714 Saul 7586 that x3588 David 1732 was come 935 z8804 to Keilah. 7084 And Saul 7586 said, 559 z8799 God 430 hath delivered 5234 z8765 him into mine hand; 3027 for x3588 he is shut in, 5462 z8738 by entering 935 z8800 into a town 5892 that hath gates 1817 and bars. 1280

 23:8 And Saul 7586 called 8085 z0 x853 all x3605 the people 5971 together y8085 z8762 to war, 4421 to go down 3381 z8800 to Keilah, 7084 to besiege 6696 z8800 x413 David 1732 and his men. y582 x376

 23:9 ¶ And David 1732 knew 3045 z8799 that x3588 Saul 7586 secretly practised 2790 z8688 mischief 7451 against x5921 him; and he said 559 z8799 to x413 Abiathar 54 the priest, 3548 Bring hither 5066 z8685 the ephod. 646

 23:10 Then said 559 z8799 David, 1732 O LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 thy servant 5650 hath certainly y8085 z8800 heard 8085 z8804 that x3588 Saul 7586 seeketh 1245 z8764 to come 935 z8800 to x413 Keilah, 7084 to destroy 7843 z8763 the city 5892 for my sake. x5668

 23:11 Will the men 1167 of Keilah 7084 deliver me up 5462 z8686 into his hand? 3027 will Saul 7586 come down, 3381 z8799 as x834 thy servant 5650 hath heard? 8085 z8804 O LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 I beseech thee, x4994 tell 5046 z8685 thy servant. 5650 And the LORD 3068 said, 559 z8799 He will come down. 3381 z8799

 23:12 Then said 559 z8799 David, 1732 Will the men 1167 of Keilah 7084 deliver 5462 z8686 me and my men y582 x376 into the hand 3027 of Saul? 7586 And the LORD 3068 said, 559 z8799 They will deliver [thee] up. 5462 z8686

 23:13 ¶ Then David 1732 and his men, y582 x376 [which were] about six 8337 hundred, 3967 376 arose 6965 z8799 and departed 3318 z8799 out of Keilah, 7084 x4480 and went 1980 z8691 whithersoever 834 they could go. 1980 z8691 And it was told 5046 z8717 Saul 7586 that x3588 David 1732 was escaped 4422 z8738 from Keilah; 7084 x4480 and he forbare 2308 z8799 to go forth. 3318 z8800

 23:14 And David 1732 abode 3427 z8799 in the wilderness 4057 in strong holds, 4679 and remained 3427 z8799 in a mountain 2022 in the wilderness 4057 of Ziph. 2128 And Saul 7586 sought 1245 z8762 him every x3605 day, 3117 but God 430 delivered 5414 z8804 him not x3808 into his hand. 3027

 23:15 And David 1732 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 Saul 7586 was come out 3318 z8804 to seek 1245 z8763 x853 his life: 5315 and David 1732 [was] in the wilderness 4057 of Ziph 2128 in a wood. 2793

 23:16 ¶ And Jonathan 3083 Saul's 7586 son 1121 arose, 6965 z8799 and went y3212 z8799 x1980 to x413 David 1732 into the wood, 2793 and strengthened 2388 z8762 x853 his hand 3027 in God. 430

 23:17 And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, Fear 3372 z8799 not: x408 for x3588 the hand 3027 of Saul 7586 my father 1 shall not x3808 find 4672 z8799 thee; and thou x859 shalt be king 4427 z8799 over x5921 Israel, 3478 and I x595 shall be x1961 next 4932 unto thee; and that x3651 also x1571 Saul 7586 my father 1 knoweth. 3045 z8802

 23:18 And they two 8147 made 3772 z8799 a covenant 1285 before 6440 the LORD: 3068 and David 1732 abode 3427 z8799 in the wood, 2793 and Jonathan 3083 went 1980 z8804 to his house. 1004

 23:19 ¶ Then came up 5927 z8799 the Ziphites 2130 to x413 Saul 7586 to Gibeah, 1390 saying, 559 z8800 Doth not x3808 David 1732 hide y5641 z8693 himself x5641 with x5973 us in strong holds 4679 in the wood, 2793 in the hill 1389 of Hachilah, 2444 which x834 [is] on the south 3225 x4480 of Jeshimon? 3452

 23:20 Now x6258 therefore, O king, 4428 come down 3381 z8798 according to all x3605 the desire 185 of thy soul 5315 to come down; 3381 z8800 and our part [shall be] to deliver 5462 z8687 him into the king's 4428 hand. 3027

 23:21 And Saul 7586 said, 559 z8799 Blessed 1288 z8803 [be] ye x859 of the LORD; 3068 for x3588 ye have compassion 2550 z8804 on x5921 me.

 23:22 Go, y3212 z8798 x1980 I pray you, x4994 prepare 3559 z8685 yet, x5750 and know 3045 z8798 and see 7200 z8798 x853 his place 4725 where x834 his haunt 7272 is, x1961 [and] who x4310 hath seen 7200 z8804 him there: x8033 for x3588 it is told 559 z8804 x413 me [that] he x1931 dealeth very y6191 z8800 subtilly. 6191 z8686

 23:23 See 7200 z8798 therefore, and take knowledge 3045 z8798 of all x4480 x3605 the lurking places 4224 where x834 he hideth y2244 z8691 himself, x2244 and come ye again 7725 z8804 to x413 me with x413 the certainty, 3559 z8737 and I will go 1980 z8804 with x854 you: and it shall come to pass, x1961 if x518 he be 3426 x1961 in the land, 776 that I will search y2664 z8765 him out x2664 x853 throughout all x3605 the thousands 505 of Judah. 3063

 23:24 And they arose, 6965 z8799 and went y3212 z8799 x1980 to Ziph 2128 before 6440 Saul: 7586 but David 1732 and his men y582 x376 [were] in the wilderness 4057 of Maon, 4584 in the plain 6160 on x413 the south 3225 of Jeshimon. 3452

 23:25 Saul 7586 also and his men y582 x376 went y3212 z8799 x1980 to seek 1245 z8763 [him]. And they told 5046 z8686 David: 1732 wherefore he came down 3381 z8799 into a rock, 5553 and abode 3427 z8799 in the wilderness 4057 of Maon. 4584 And when Saul 7586 heard 8085 z8799 [that], he pursued 7291 z8799 after 310 David 1732 in the wilderness 4057 of Maon. 4584

 23:26 And Saul 7586 went y3212 z8799 x1980 on this side 6654 4480 x2088 of the mountain, 2022 and David 1732 and his men y582 x376 on that side 6654 4480 x2088 of the mountain: 2022 and David 1732 made haste 2648 z8737 x1961 to get away y3212 z8800 x1980 for fear y6440 of x4480 x6440 Saul; 7586 for Saul 7586 and his men y582 x376 compassed 5849 z0 x413 David 1732 and his men y582 x376 round about y5849 z8802 to take 8610 z8800 them.

 23:27 ¶ But there came 935 z8804 a messenger 4397 unto x413 Saul, 7586 saying, 559 z8800 Haste 4116 z8761 thee, and come; y3212 z8798 x1980 for x3588 the Philistines 6430 have invaded 6584 z8804 x5921 the land. 776

 23:28 Wherefore Saul 7586 returned 7725 z8799 from pursuing 7291 z8800 x4480 after 310 David, 1732 and went y3212 z8799 x1980 against 7125 z8800 the Philistines: 6430 therefore x5921 x3651 they called 7121 z8804 that x1931 place 4725 Selahammahlekoth. 5555 x5553 x4256

 23:29 ¶ And David 1732 went up 5927 z8799 from thence, x4480 x8033 and dwelt 3427 z8799 in strong holds 4679 at Engedi. 5872
