2 Samuel 2

1 David, by God's direction, with his company goeth up to Hebron, where he is made king of Judah. 5 He commendeth them of Jabesh-gilead for their kindness to Saul. 8 Abner maketh Ish-bosheth king of Israel. 12 A mortal skirmish between twelve of Abner's and twelve of Joab's men. 18 Asahel is slain. 25 At Abner's motion Joab soundeth a retreat. 32 Asahel's burial.

 2:1 ¶ And it came to passe x1961 after x310 this, y310 x3651 that Dauid 1732 enquired 7592 z8799 of the LORD, 3068 saying, 559 z8800 Shall I goe vp 5927 z8799 into any 259 of the Cities 5892 of Iudah? 3063 And the LORD 3068 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 him, Goe vp. 5927 z8798 And Dauid 1732 said, 559 z8799 Whither x575 shall I goe vp? 5927 z8799 And he said, 559 z8799 Unto Hebron. 2275

 2:2 So Dauid 1732 went vp 5927 z8799 thither, x8033 and his two 8147 wiues 802 also, x1571 Ahinoam 293 the Iezreelitesse, 3159 and Abigail 26 Nabals 5037 wife 802 the Carmelite. 3761

 2:3 And his men y582 x376 that x834 [were] with x5973 him, did Dauid 1732 bring vp, 5927 z8689 euery man 376 with his houshold: 1004 and they dwelt 3427 z8799 in the cities 5892 of Hebron. 2275

 2:4 And the men y582 x376 of Iudah 3063 came, 935 z8799 and there x8033 they anointed 4886 z8799 x853 Dauid 1732 king 4428 ouer x5921 the house 1004 of Iudah: 3063 and they tolde 5046 z8686 Dauid, 1732 saying; 559 z8800 That the men y582 x376 of Iabesh Gilead 3003 1568 [were they] that x834 buried 6912 z8804 x853 Saul. 7586

 2:5 ¶ And Dauid 1732 sent 7971 z8799 messengers 4397 vnto x413 the men y582 x376 of Iabesh Gilead, 3003 1568 and said 559 z8799 vnto x413 them, Blessed 1288 z8803 [be] ye x859 of the LORD, 3068 that x834 ye haue shewed 6213 z8804 this x2088 kindnesse 2617 vnto x5973 your lord, 113 [euen] vnto x5973 Saul, 7586 and haue buried 6912 z8799 him.

 2:6 And now x6258 the LORD 3068 shewe 6213 z8799 kindnesse 2617 and trueth 571 vnto x5973 you: and I x595 also x1571 will requite 6213 z8799 you this x2063 kindnesse, 2896 because x834 ye haue done 6213 z8804 this x2088 thing. 1697

 2:7 Therefore now x6258 let your handes 3027 be strengthened, 2388 z8799 and be x1961 ye valiant: 1121 2428 for x3588 your master 113 Saul 7586 is dead, 4191 z8804 and also x1571 the house 1004 of Iudah 3063 haue anointed 4886 z8804 me king 4428 ouer x5921 them.

 2:8 ¶ But Abner 74 the sonne 1121 of Ner, 5369 captaine 8269 of Sauls 7586 hoste, 6635 tooke 3947 z8804 x853 Ishbosheth 378 the sonne 1121 of Saul, 7586 and brought him ouer 5674 z8686 to Mahanaim. 4266

 2:9 And hee made him king 4427 z8686 ouer x413 Gilead, 1568 and ouer x413 the Ashurites, y805 x843 and ouer x413 Iezreel, 3157 and ouer x5921 Ephraim, 669 and ouer x5921 Beniamin, 1144 and ouer x5921 all x3605 Israel. 3478

 2:10 Ishbosheth 378 Sauls 7586 sonne 1121 [was] fortie 705 yeeres 8141 olde 1121 when he began to reigne 4427 z8800 ouer x5921 Israel, 3478 and reigned 4427 z8804 two 8147 yeres: 8141 but x389 the house 1004 of Iudah 3063 followed 310 x1961 Dauid. 1732

 2:11 (And the time 4557 3117 that x834 Dauid 1732 was x1961 King 4428 in Hebron 2275 ouer x5921 the house 1004 of Iudah, 3063 [was] x1961 seuen 7651 yeeres, 8141 and sixe 8337 moneths) 2320

 2:12 ¶ And Abner 74 the sonne 1121 of Ner, 5369 and the seruants 5650 of Ishbosheth 378 the sonne 1121 of Saul, 7586 went out 3318 z8799 from Mahanaim, 4266 x4480 to Gibeon. 1391

 2:13 And Ioab 3097 the sonne 1121 of Zeruiah, 6870 and the seruants 5650 of Dauid 1732 went out, 3318 z8804 and met 6298 z8799 together 3162 by x5921 the poole 1295 of Gibeon: 1391 and they sate downe, 3427 z8799 the one x428 on the one side x4480 x2088 of x5921 the poole, 1295 and the other x428 on the other side x4480 x2088 of x5921 the poole. 1295

 2:14 And Abner 74 said 559 z8799 to x413 Ioab, 3097 Let the yong men 5288 now x4994 arise, 6965 z8799 and play 7832 z8762 before 6440 vs: and Ioab 3097 saide, 559 z8799 Let them arise. 6965 z8799

 2:15 Then there arose 6965 z8799 and went ouer 5674 z8799 by number 4557 twelue 8147 6240 of Beniamin, 1144 which [pertained] to Ishbosheth 378 the sonne 1121 of Saul, 7586 and twelue 8147 6240 of the seruants 5650 x4480 of Dauid. 1732

 2:16 And they caught 2388 z8686 euery one 376 his fellow 7453 by the head, 7218 and [thrust] his sword 2719 in his fellowes 7453 side, 6654 so they fell downe 5307 z8799 together: 3162 Wherfore that x1931 place 4725 was called 7121 z8799 Helkath-hazzurim, 2521 which x834 is in Gibeon. 1391

 2:17 And there was x1961 a very 3966 x5704 sore 7186 battell 4421 that x1931 day: 3117 and Abner 74 was beaten, 5062 z8735 and the men y582 x376 of Israel, 3478 before 6440 the seruants 5650 of Dauid. 1732

 2:18 ¶ And there x8033 were x1961 three 7969 sonnes 1121 of Zeruiah 6870 there, Ioab, 3097 and Abishai, 52 and Asahel: 6214 and Asahel 6214 [was as] light 7031 of foot 7272 as a 259 wilde 7704 x834 Roe. 6643

 2:19 And Asahel 6214 pursued 7291 z8799 after 310 Abner, 74 and in going y3212 z8800 x1980 he turned 5186 z8804 not x3808 to x5921 the right x3225 hand y3225 nor to x5921 the left 8040 from following 310 x4480 Abner. 74

 2:20 Then Abner 74 looked 6437 z8799 behind 310 him, and said, 559 z8799 Art thou x859 Asahel? 6214 And he answered, 559 z8799 I x595 [am].

 2:21 And Abner 74 said 559 z8799 to him, Turne thee aside 5186 z8798 to x5921 thy right x3225 hand, y3225 or x176 to x5921 thy left, 8040 and lay thee holde 270 z8798 on one 259 of the yong men, 5288 x4480 and take 3947 z8798 thee x853 his armour. 2488 But Asahel 6214 would 14 z8804 not x3808 turne aside 5493 z8800 from following 310 x4480 of him.

 2:22 And Abner 74 said 559 z8800 againe 3254 z8686 to x413 Asahel, 6214 Turne thee aside 5493 z8798 from following 310 x4480 me: Wherefore x4100 should I smite 5221 z8686 thee to the ground? 776 how x349 then should I holde vp 5375 z8799 my face 6440 to x413 Ioab 3097 thy brother? 251

 2:23 Howbeit he refused 3985 z8762 to turne aside: 5493 z8800 wherefore Abner 74 with the hinder ende y310 of x310 the speare 2595 smote 5221 z8686 him vnder 413 the fift 2570 [ribbe], that the speare 2595 came out 3318 z8799 behinde 310 x4480 him, and hee fell downe 5307 z8799 there, x8033 and died 4191 z8799 in the same place: 8478 and it came to passe, x1961 that as many x3605 as came 935 z8802 to x413 the place 4725 where x834 Asahel 6214 fell downe 5307 z8804 and died, 4191 z8799 stood still. 5975 z8799

 2:24 Ioab 3097 also and Abishai 52 pursued 7291 z8799 after 310 Abner: 74 and the Sunne 8121 went downe 935 z8804 when they x1992 were come 935 z8804 to x5704 the hill 1389 of Ammah, 522 that x834 [lieth] before 6440 x5921 Giah 1520 by the way 1870 of the wildernesse 4057 of Gibeon. 1391

 2:25 ¶ And the children 1121 of Beniamin 1144 gathered themselues together 6908 z8691 after 310 Abner, 74 and became x1961 one 259 troupe, 92 and stood 5975 z8799 on x5921 the top 7218 of an x259 hill. 1389

 2:26 Then Abner 74 called 7121 z8799 to x413 Ioab, 3097 and said, 559 z8799 Shall the sword 2719 deuoure 398 z8799 for euer? 5331 Knowest 3045 z8804 thou not x3808 that x3588 it wil be x1961 bitternesse 4751 in the latter end? 314 How long x5704 shall it bee then, yer x3808 thou bid 559 z8799 the people 5971 returne 7725 z8800 from following 310 x4480 their brethren? 251

 2:27 And Ioab 3097 said, 559 z8799 As God 430 liueth, 2416 vnlesse 3884 x3588 thou hadst spoken, 1696 z8765 surely x3588 then x227 in the morning 1242 the people 5971 had gone vp 5927 z8738 euery one 376 from following 310 x4480 his brother. 251

 2:28 So Ioab 3097 blew 8628 z8799 a trumpet, 7782 and all x3605 the people 5971 stood x5975 still, y5975 z8799 and pursued 7291 z8799 after 310 Israel 3478 no x3808 more, x5750 neither x3808 fought 3898 z8736 they any more. 3254 z8804

 2:29 And Abner 74 and his men y582 x376 walked 1980 z8804 all x3605 that x1931 night 3915 thorow the plaine, 6160 and passed ouer 5674 z8799 x853 Iordane, 3383 and went thorow y3212 z8799 x1980 all x3605 Bithron, 1338 and they came 935 z8799 to Mahanaim. 4266

 2:30 And Ioab 3097 returned 7725 z8804 from folowing 310 x4480 Abner; 74 and when he had gathered y6908 z0 all the people y5971 together, 6908 z8799 x853 x3605 x5971 there lacked 6485 z8735 of Dauids y1732 seruants 5650 x4480 x1732 nineteene 8672 6240 men, 376 and Asahel. 6214

 2:31 But the seruants 5650 of Dauid 1732 had smitten 5221 z8689 of Beniamin 1144 x4480 and of Abners 74 men, y582 x4480 x376 [so that] three 7969 hundred 3967 and threescore 8346 men 376 died. 4191 z8804

 2:32 ¶ And they tooke vp 5375 z8799 x853 Asahel, 6214 and buried 6912 z8799 him in the sepulchre 6913 of his father 1 which x834 [was] in Bethlehem: 1035 and Ioab 3097 and his men y582 x376 went y3212 z8799 x1980 all x3605 night, 3915 and they came to Hebron 2275 at breake of day. 215 z8735
