Iudges 21

1 The people bewail the desolation of Benjamin. 8 By the destruction of Jabesh-gilead they provide them four hundred wives. 16 They advise them to surprise the virgins that danced at Shiloh.

 21:1 ¶ Nowe the men 376 of Israel 3478 had sworne 7650 z8738 in Mizpeh, 4709 saying, 559 z8800 There shall not x3808 any 376 of x4480 vs giue 5414 z8799 his daughter 1323 vnto Beniamin 1144 to wife. 802

 21:2 And the people 5971 came 935 z8799 to the house y1004 of God, 1008 y430 z8677 and abode 3427 z8799 there x8033 till x5704 euen 6153 before 6440 God, 430 and lift vp 5375 z8799 their voices, 6963 and wept 1058 z8799 y1065 sore: 1419 x1065

 21:3 And said, 559 z8799 O LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 why x4100 is this x2063 come to passe x1961 in Israel, 3478 that there should bee to day 3117 one 259 tribe 7626 lacking 6485 z8736 in Israel? 3478 x4480

 21:4 And it came to passe x1961 on the morrow, 4283 x4480 that the people 5971 rose early, 7925 z8686 and built 1129 z8799 there x8033 an Altar, 4196 and offered 5927 z8686 burnt offerings, 5930 and peace offerings. 8002

 21:5 And the children 1121 of Israel 3478 sayd, 559 z8799 Who x4310 [is there] among all x4480 x3605 the tribes 7626 of Israel, 3478 that 834 came y5927 z8804 not vp x5927 x3808 with the congregation 6951 vnto x413 the LORD? 3068 for x3588 they had made x1961 a great 1419 oath 7621 concerning x834 him that came not vp 5927 z8804 x3808 to x413 the LORD 3068 to Mizpeh, 4709 saying, 559 z8800 He shall surely y4191 z8800 be put to death. 4191 z8714

 21:6 And the children 1121 of Israel 3478 repented 5162 z8735 them for x413 Beniamin 1144 their brother, 251 and said, 559 z8799 There is one 259 tribe 7626 cut off 1438 z8738 from Israel 3478 x4480 this day: 3117

 21:7 How x4100 shall wee doe 6213 z8799 for wiues 802 for them that remaine, 3498 z8737 seeing wee x587 haue sworne 7650 z8738 by the LORD, 3068 that wee will not x1115 giue 5414 z8800 them of our daughters 1323 x4480 to wiues? 802

 21:8 ¶ And they said, 559 z8799 What x4310 one 259 [is there] of the tribes 7626 x4480 of Israel, 3478 that x834 came not vp 5927 z8804 x3808 to Mizpeh 4709 to x413 the LORD? 3068 And beholde, x2009 there came 935 z8804 none 376 x3808 to x413 the campe 4264 from Iabesh Gilead 3003 1568 x4480 to x413 the assembly. 6951

 21:9 For the people 5971 were numbred, 6485 z8691 and behold, x2009 there were none 376 x369 of the inhabitants 3427 z8802 x4480 of Iabesh Gilead 3003 1568 there. x8033

 21:10 And the congregation 5712 sent 7971 z8799 thither x8033 twelue 8147 6240 thousand 505 men 376 of the valiantest, 1121 2428 x4480 and commaunded 6680 z8762 them, saying, 559 z8800 Goe, y3212 z8798 x1980 and smite 5221 z8689 x853 the inhabitants 3427 z8802 of Iabesh Gilead 3003 1568 with the edge 6310 of the sword, 2719 with the women 802 and the children. 2945

 21:11 And this x2088 [is] the thing 1697 that x834 yee shall doe, 6213 z8799 Yee shall vtterly destroy 2763 z8686 euery x3605 male, 2145 and euery x3605 woman 802 that hath lien 4904 x3045 by man. y3045 z8802 x2145

 21:12 And they found 4672 z8799 among the inhabitants 3427 z8802 x4480 of Iabesh Gilead, 3003 1568 foure 702 hundred 3967 yong 5291 virgins 1330 that x834 had knowen 3045 z8804 no x3808 man, 376 by lying 4904 with any male: 2145 and they brought 935 z8686 them vnto x413 the campe 4264 to Shiloh, 7887 which x834 [is] in the land 776 of Canaan. 3667

 21:13 And the whole x3605 Congregation 5712 sent 7971 z8799 [some] to speake 1696 z8762 to x413 the children 1121 of Beniamin 1144 that x834 [were] in the rocke 5553 Rimmon, 7417 and to call 7121 z8799 peaceably 7965 vnto them.

 21:14 And Beniamin 1144 came againe 7725 z8799 at that x1931 time, 6256 and they gaue 5414 z8799 them wiues 802 which x834 they had saued aliue 2421 z8765 of the women 802 x4480 of Iabesh Gilead: 3003 1568 and yet so x3651 they sufficed 4672 z8804 them not. x3808

 21:15 And the people 5971 repented y5162 z8737 them x5162 for Beniamin, 1144 because x3588 that the LORD 3068 had made 6213 z8804 a breach 6556 in the tribes 7626 of Israel. 3478

 21:16 ¶ Then the Elders 2205 of the Congregation 5712 said, 559 z8799 How x4100 shall we doe 6213 z8799 for wiues 802 for them that remaine? 3498 z8737 seeing x3588 the women 802 are destroyed 8045 z8738 out of Beniamin. 1144 x4480

 21:17 And they said, 559 z8799 There must be an inheritance 3425 for them that bee escaped 6413 of Beniamin, 1144 that a tribe 7626 be not x3808 destroyed 4229 z8735 out of Israel. 3478 x4480

 21:18 Howbeit wee x587 may 3201 z8799 not x3808 giue 5414 z8800 them wiues 802 of our daughters. 1323 x4480 For x3588 the children 1121 of Israel 3478 haue sworne, 7650 z8738 saying, 559 z8800 Cursed 779 z8803 be he that giueth 5414 z8802 a wife 802 to Beniamin. 1144

 21:19 Then they said, 559 z8799 Behold, x2009 [there is] a feast 2282 of the LORD 3068 in Shiloh 7887 yerely, 3117 x4480 [in a place] which x834 [is] on the Northside 6828 x4480 of Bethel 1008 x4480 on the East side 4217 8121 of the hie way 4546 that goeth vp 5927 z8802 from Bethel 1008 x4480 to Shechem, 7927 and on the South 5045 x4480 of Lebanon. 3829

 21:20 Therefore they commanded 6680 z8762 x853 the children 1121 of Beniamin, 1144 saying, 559 z8800 Goe y3212 z8798 x1980 and lie in wait 693 z8804 in the vineyards. 3754

 21:21 And see, 7200 z8804 and behold, x2009 if x518 the daughters 1323 of Shiloh 7887 come out 3318 z8799 to daunce 2342 z8800 in daunces, 4246 then come yee out 3318 z8804 of x4480 the vineyards, 3754 and catch 2414 z8804 you euery man 376 his wife 802 of the daughters 1323 x4480 of Shiloh, 7887 and goe 1980 z8804 to the land 776 of Beniamin. 1144

 21:22 And it shall bee x1961 when x3588 their fathers 1 or x176 their brethren 251 come 935 z8799 vnto x413 vs to complaine, 7378 z8800 that we will say 559 z8804 vnto x413 them, Bee fauourable 2603 z8798 vnto them for our sakes: because x3588 we reserued 3947 z8804 not x3808 to each man 376 his wife 802 in the warre: 4421 for x3588 yee x859 did not x3808 giue 5414 z8804 vnto them at this time, 6256 that you should be guiltie. 816 z8799

 21:23 And the children 1121 of Beniamin 1144 did x6213 so, y6213 z8799 x3651 and tooke 5375 z8799 them wiues 802 according to their number, 4557 of x4480 them that daunced, 2342 z8789 whome x834 they caught: 1497 z8804 and they went y3212 z8799 x1980 and returned 7725 z8799 vnto x413 their inheritance, 5159 and repaired 1129 z8799 x853 the cities, 5892 and dwelt 3427 z8799 in them.

 21:24 And the children 1121 of Israel 3478 departed 1980 z8691 thence x4480 x8033 at that x1931 time, 6256 euery man 376 to his tribe, 7626 and to his family, 4940 and they went out 3318 z8799 from thence x4480 x8033 euery man 376 to his inheritance. 5159

 21:25 In those x1992 dayes 3117 there was no x369 King 4428 in Israel: 3478 euery man 376 did 6213 z8799 that which was right 3477 in his owne eyes. 5869
