Ioshua 7

1 The Israelites are smitten at Ai. 6 Joshua's complaint. 10 God instructeth him what to do. 16 Achan is taken by the lot. 19 His confession. 22 He and all he had are destroyed in the valley of Achor.

 7:1 ¶ But the children 1121 of Israel 3478 committed 4603 z8799 a trespasse 4604 in the accursed thing: 2764 for Achan 5912 the sonne 1121 of Carmi, 3756 the sonne 1121 of Zabdi, 2067 the sonne 1121 of Zerah, 2226 of the tribe 4294 of Iudah, 3063 tooke 3947 z8799 of x4480 the accursed thing: 2764 and the anger 639 of the LORD 3068 was kindled 2734 z8799 against the children 1121 of Israel. 3478

 7:2 And Ioshua 3091 sent 7971 z8799 men y582 x376 from Iericho 3405 x4480 to Ai, 5857 which x834 is beside 5973 Beth-auen, 1007 on the East side 6924 x4480 of Bethel, 1008 and spake 559 z8799 vnto x413 them, saying, 559 z8800 Goe vp 5927 z8798 and view 7270 z8761 x853 the countrey. 776 And the men y582 x376 went vp, 5927 z8799 and viewed 7270 z8762 x853 Ai. 5857

 7:3 And they returned 7725 z8799 to x413 Ioshua, 3091 and said 559 z8799 vnto x413 him, Let not x408 all x3605 the people 5971 goe vp: 5927 z8799 but let about two x505 or x176 three 7969 thousand 505 men 376 goe vp, 5927 z8799 and smite 5221 z8686 x853 Ai, 5857 and make not x408 x853 all x3605 the people 5971 to labour 3021 z8762 thither, x8033 for x3588 they x1992 are but few. 4592

 7:4 So there went vp 5927 z8799 thither x8033 of x4480 the people 5971 about three 7969 thousand 505 men, 376 and they fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 the men y582 x376 of Ai. 5857

 7:5 And the men y582 x376 of Ai 5857 smote 5221 z8686 of x4480 them about thirty 7970 and sixe 8337 men: 376 for they chased 7291 z8799 them [from] before 6440 the gate 8179 euen vnto x5704 Shebarim, 7671 and smote 5221 z8686 them in the going downe: 4174 Wherefore the hearts 3824 of the people 5971 melted, 4549 z8735 & became x1961 as water. 4325

 7:6 ¶ And Ioshua 3091 rent 7167 z8799 his clothes, 8071 and fell 5307 z8799 to the earth 776 vpon x5921 his face, 6440 before 6440 the Arke 727 of the LORD, 3068 vntill x5704 the euentide, 6153 he x1931 and the Elders 2205 of Israel, 3478 and put 5927 z8686 dust 6083 vpon x5921 their heads. 7218

 7:7 And Ioshua 3091 said, 559 z8799 Alas, x162 O y162 Lord 136 GOD, 3069 wherefore x4100 hast thou at all y5674 z8687 brought 5674 z0 x853 this x2088 people 5971 ouer 5674 z8689 x853 Iordan, 3383 to deliuer 5414 z8800 vs into the hand 3027 of the Amorites, 567 to destroy 6 z8687 vs? Would to God 3863 we had bene content, 2974 z8689 and dwelt 3427 z8799 on the other side 5676 Iordan. 3383

 7:8 Oh 994 Lord! 136 what x4100 shall I say, 559 z8799 when 310 x834 Israel 3478 turneth 2015 z8804 their backes 6203 before 6440 their enemies? 341 z8802

 7:9 For the Canaanites, 3669 and all x3605 the inhabitants 3427 z8802 of the land 776 shall heare 8085 z8799 [of it], and shall enuiron vs round, 5437 z8738 x5921 and cut off 3772 z8689 x853 our name 8034 from x4480 the earth: 776 and what x4100 wilt thou doe 6213 z8799 vnto thy great 1419 Name? 8034

 7:10 ¶ And the LORD 3068 saide 559 z8799 vnto x413 Ioshua, 3091 Get thee vp; 6965 z8798 wherefore x4100 liest 5307 z8802 thou x859 thus x2088 vpon x5921 thy face? 6440

 7:11 Israel 3478 hath sinned, 2398 z8804 and they haue also x1571 transgressed 5674 z8804 x853 my Couenant 1285 which x834 I commaunded 6680 z8765 them: for they haue euen x1571 taken 3947 z8804 of x4480 the accursed thing, 2764 and haue also x1571 stollen, 1589 z8804 and dissembled 3584 z8765 also, x1571 and they haue put 7760 z8804 it euen x1571 amongst their owne stuffe. 3627

 7:12 Therefore the children 1121 of Israel 3478 could 3201 z8799 not x3808 stand 6965 z8800 before 6440 their enemies, 341 z8802 [but] turned 6437 z8799 their backs 6203 before 6440 their enemies, 341 z8802 because x3588 they were x1961 accursed: 2764 neither x3808 will I bee x1961 with x5973 you any more, 3254 z8686 except 3808 x518 yee destroy 8045 z8686 the accursed 2764 from amongst 7130 x4480 you.

 7:13 Up, 6965 z8798 sanctifie 6942 z8761 x853 the people, 5971 and say, 559 z8804 Sanctifie y6942 z8690 your selues x6942 against to morrow: 4279 for x3588 thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 [There is] an accursed thing 2764 in the midst 7130 of thee, O Israel: 3478 thou canst 3201 z8799 not x3808 stand 6965 z8800 before 6440 thine enemies, 341 z8802 vntill x5704 ye take away 5493 z8687 the accursed thing 2764 from among 7130 x4480 you.

 7:14 In the morning 1242 therefore ye shal be brought, 7126 z8738 according to your tribes: 7626 and it shall be x1961 that the tribe 7626 which x834 the LORD 3068 taketh, 3920 z8799 shall come 7126 z8799 according to the families 4940 [thereof], and the familie 4940 which x834 the LORD 3068 shall take, 3920 z8799 shal come 7126 z8799 by housholdes: 1004 and the housholdes 1004 which x834 the LORD 3068 shall take, 3920 z8799 shal come 7126 z8799 man y1397 by man. 1397

 7:15 And it shalbe x1961 that he that is taken 3920 z8737 with the accursed thing, 2764 shall bee burnt 8313 z8735 with fire, 784 he, and all x3605 that x834 hee hath: because x3588 he hath transgressed 5674 z8804 x853 the couenant 1285 of the LORD, 3068 and because x3588 hee hath wrought 6213 z8804 folly 5039 in Israel. 3478

 7:16 ¶ So Ioshua 3091 rose vp earely 7925 z8686 in the morning, 1242 and brought 7126 z8686 x853 Israel 3478 by their tribes, 7626 and the tribe 7626 of Iudah 3063 was taken. 3920 z8735

 7:17 And hee brought 7126 z8686 x853 the familie 4940 of Iudah, 3063 and he tooke 3920 z8799 x853 the familie 4940 of the Zarhites: 2227 and he brought 7126 z8686 x853 the familie 4940 of the Zarhites, 2227 man y1397 by man, 1397 and Zabdi 2067 was taken. 3920 z8735

 7:18 And hee brought 7126 z8686 x853 his houshold, 1004 man y1397 by man, 1397 and Achan 5912 the sonne 1121 of Carmi, 3756 the sonne 1121 of Zabdi, 2067 the sonne 1121 of Zerah, 2226 of the tribe 4294 of Iudah, 3063 was taken. 3920 z8735

 7:19 And Ioshua 3091 said 559 z8799 vnto x413 Achan, 5912 My sonne, 1121 giue, 7760 z8798 I pray thee, x4994 glory 3519 to the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 and make 5414 z8798 confession 8426 vnto him, and tel 5046 z8685 me now, x4994 what x4100 thou hast done, 6213 z8804 hide 3582 z8762 it not x408 from x4480 me.

 7:20 And Achan 5912 answered 6030 z8799 x853 Ioshua, 3091 and said, 559 z8799 Indeed 546 I x595 haue sinned 2398 z8804 against the LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel, 3478 and thus x2063 and thus x2063 haue I done. 6213 z8804

 7:21 When I saw 7200 z8799 among the spoiles 7998 a 259 goodly 2896 Babylonish 8152 garment, 155 and two hundred 3967 shekels 8255 of siluer, 3701 and a 259 wedge 3956 of gold 2091 of fiftie 2572 shekels 8255 weight, 4948 then I coueted 2530 z8799 them, and tooke 3947 z8799 them, and behold, x2009 they are hid 2934 z8803 in the earth 776 in the midst 8432 of my tent, 168 and the siluer 3701 vnder x8478 it.

 7:22 ¶ So Ioshua 3091 sent 7971 z8799 messengers, 4397 and they ran 7323 z8799 vnto the tent, 168 and behold, x2009 it was hid 2934 z8803 in his tent, 168 and the siluer 3701 vnder x8478 it.

 7:23 And they tooke 3947 z8799 them out of the midst 8432 x4480 of the tent, 168 and brought 935 z8686 them vnto x413 Ioshua, 3091 and vnto x413 all x3605 the children 1121 of Israel, 3478 and laid them out 3332 z8686 before 6440 the LORD. 3068

 7:24 And Ioshua 3091 and all x3605 Israel 3478 with x5973 him tooke 3947 z8799 x853 Achan 5912 the sonne 1121 of Zerah, 2226 and the siluer, 3701 and the garment, 155 and the wedge 3956 of golde, 2091 and his sonnes, 1121 and his daughters, 1323 and his oxen, 7794 and his asses, 2543 and his sheepe, 6629 and his tent, 168 and all x3605 that x834 he had: and they brought 5927 z8686 them vnto the valley 6010 of Achor. 5911

 7:25 And Ioshua 3091 said, 559 z8799 Why 4100 hast thou troubled 5916 z8804 vs? the LORD 3068 shall trouble 5916 z8799 thee this x2088 day. 3117 And all x3605 Israel 3478 stoned y7275 z8799 x5619 him with stones, 68 and burned 8313 z8799 them with fire, 784 after they had stoned y5619 z8799 x7275 them with stones. 68

 7:26 And they raised 6965 z8686 ouer x5921 him a great 1419 heape 1530 of stones 68 vnto x5704 this x2088 day: 3117 so the LORD 3068 turned 7725 z8799 from the fiercenesse 2740 x4480 of his anger: 639 Wherefore x5921 x3651 the name 8034 of the x1931 place 4725 was called, 7121 z8804 The valley 6010 of Achor, 5911 vnto x5704 this x2088 day. 3117
