1 The Amalekite, who brought tidings of the overthrow, and accused himself of Saul's death, is slain. 17 David lamenteth Saul and Jonathan with a song.

 1:1 ¶ Now it came to pass x1961 after 310 the death 4194 of Saul, 7586 when David 1732 was returned 7725 z8804 from the slaughter 5221 z8687 x4480 of x853 the Amalekites, 6002 and David 1732 had abode 3427 z8799 two 8147 days 3117 in Ziklag; 6860

 1:2 It came even to pass x1961 on the third 7992 day, 3117 that, behold, x2009 a man 376 came 935 z8802 out of x4480 the camp 4264 from x4480 x5973 Saul 7586 with his clothes 899 rent, 7167 z8803 and earth 127 upon x5921 his head: 7218 and [so] it was, x1961 when he came 935 z8800 to x413 David, 1732 that he fell 5307 z8799 to the earth, 776 and did obeisance. 7812 z8691

 1:3 And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto him, From whence x335 x4480 x2088 comest 935 z8799 thou? And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, Out of the camp 4264 x4480 of Israel 3478 am I escaped. 4422 z8738

 1:4 And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, How 4100 went x1961 the matter? 1697 I pray thee, x4994 tell 5046 z8685 me. And he answered, 559 z8799 That x834 the people 5971 are fled 5127 z8804 from x4480 the battle, 4421 and many 7235 z8687 of x4480 the people 5971 also x1571 are fallen 5307 z8804 and dead; 4191 z8799 and Saul 7586 and Jonathan 3083 his son 1121 are dead 4191 z8804 also. x1571

 1:5 And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto x413 the young man 5288 that told 5046 z8688 him, How x349 knowest 3045 z8804 thou that x3588 Saul 7586 and Jonathan 3083 his son 1121 be dead? 4191 z8804

 1:6 And the young man 5288 that told 5046 z8688 him said, 559 z8799 As I happened 7136 z8738 by chance 7122 z8736 upon mount 2022 Gilboa, 1533 behold, x2009 Saul 7586 leaned 8172 z8737 upon x5921 his spear; 2595 and, lo, x2009 the chariots 7393 and horsemen 1167 6571 followed hard 1692 z8689 after him.

 1:7 And when he looked 6437 z8799 behind 310 him, he saw 7200 z8799 me, and called 7121 z8799 unto x413 me. And I answered, 559 z8799 Here x2009 [am] I.

 1:8 And he said 559 z8799 unto me, Who x4310 [art] thou? x859 And I answered 559 z8799 him, x413 I x595 [am] an Amalekite. 6003

 1:9 He said 559 z8799 unto x413 me again, Stand, 5975 z8798 I pray thee, x4994 upon x5921 me, and slay 4191 z8786 me: for x3588 anguish 7661 is come 270 z8804 upon me, because x3588 my life 5315 [is] yet x5750 whole x3605 in me.

 1:10 So I stood 5975 z8799 upon x5921 him, and slew 4191 z8787 him, because x3588 I was sure 3045 z8804 that x3588 he could not x3808 live 2421 z8799 after y310 that x310 he was fallen: 5307 z8800 and I took 3947 z8799 the crown 5145 that x834 [was] upon x5921 his head, 7218 and the bracelet 685 that x834 [was] on x5921 his arm, 2220 and have brought 935 z8686 them hither x2008 unto x413 my lord. 113

 1:11 Then David 1732 took hold 2388 z8686 on his clothes, 899 and rent 7167 z8799 them; and likewise x1571 all x3605 the men y582 x376 that x834 [were] with x854 him:

 1:12 And they mourned, 5594 z8799 and wept, 1058 z8799 and fasted 6684 z8799 until x5704 even, 6153 for x5921 Saul, 7586 and for x5921 Jonathan 3083 his son, 1121 and for x5921 the people 5971 of the LORD, 3068 and for x5921 the house 1004 of Israel; 3478 because x3588 they were fallen 5307 z8804 by the sword. 2719

 1:13 ¶ And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto x413 the young man 5288 that told 5046 z8688 him, Whence x335 x4480 x4100 [art] thou? x859 And he answered, 559 z8799 I x595 [am] the son 1121 of a stranger, 376 1616 an Amalekite. 6003

 1:14 And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, How x349 wast thou not x3808 afraid 3372 z8804 to stretch forth 7971 z8800 thine hand 3027 to destroy 7843 z8763 x853 the LORD'S 3068 anointed? 4899

 1:15 And David 1732 called 7121 z8799 one 259 of the young men, 5288 x4480 and said, 559 z8799 Go near, 5066 z8798 [and] fall 6293 z8798 upon him. And he smote 5221 z8686 him that he died. 4191 z8799

 1:16 And David 1732 said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, Thy blood 1818 [be] upon x5921 thy head; 7218 for x3588 thy mouth 6310 hath testified 6030 z8804 against thee, saying, 559 z8800 I x595 have slain 4191 z8790 x853 the LORD'S 3068 anointed. 4899

 1:17 ¶ And David 1732 lamented 6969 z8787 with x854 this x2063 lamentation 7015 over x5921 Saul 7586 and over x5921 Jonathan 3083 his son: 1121

 1:18 (Also he bade 559 z8799 them teach 3925 z8763 the children 1121 of Judah 3063 [the use of] the bow: 7198 behold, x2009 [it is] written 3789 z8803 in x5921 the book 5612 of Jasher.) 3477

 1:19 The beauty 6643 of Israel 3478 is slain 2491 upon x5921 thy high places: 1116 how x349 are the mighty 1368 fallen! 5307 z8804

 1:20 Tell 5046 z8686 [it] not x408 in Gath, 1661 publish 1319 z8762 [it] not x408 in the streets 2351 of Askelon; 831 lest x6435 the daughters 1323 of the Philistines 6430 rejoice, 8055 z8799 lest x6435 the daughters 1323 of the uncircumcised 6189 triumph. 5937 z8799

 1:21 Ye mountains 2022 of Gilboa, 1533 [let there be] no x408 dew, 2919 neither x408 [let there be] rain, 4306 upon x5921 you, nor fields 7704 of offerings: 8641 for x3588 there x8033 the shield 4043 of the mighty 1368 is vilely cast away, 1602 z8738 the shield 4043 of Saul, 7586 [as though he had] not x1097 [been] anointed y4899 x4886 with oil. 8081

 1:22 From the blood 1818 x4480 of the slain, 2491 from the fat 2459 x4480 of the mighty, 1368 the bow 7198 of Jonathan 3083 turned 7734 z8738 not x3808 back, 268 and the sword 2719 of Saul 7586 returned 7725 z8799 not x3808 empty. 7387

 1:23 Saul 7586 and Jonathan 3083 [were] lovely 157 z8737 and pleasant 5273 in their lives, 2416 and in their death 4194 they were not x3808 divided: 6504 z8738 they were swifter 7043 z8804 than eagles, 5404 x4480 they were stronger 1396 z8804 than lions. 738 x4480

 1:24 Ye daughters 1323 of Israel, 3478 weep x1058 over y1058 z8798 x413 Saul, 7586 who clothed 3847 z8688 you in scarlet, 8144 with x5973 [other] delights, 5730 who put y5927 z8688 on x5927 ornaments 5716 of gold 2091 upon x5921 your apparel. 3830

 1:25 How x349 are the mighty 1368 fallen 5307 z8804 in the midst 8432 of the battle! 4421 O Jonathan, 3083 [thou wast] slain 2491 in x5921 thine high places. 1116

 1:26 I am distressed 6887 z8804 for x5921 thee, my brother 251 Jonathan: 3083 very 3966 pleasant 5276 z8804 hast thou been unto me: thy love 160 to me was wonderful, 6381 z8738 passing the love 160 x4480 of women. 802
