2 Samuel 10

1 David's messengers, sent to comfort Hanun the son of Nahash, are villainously entreated. 6 The Ammonites, strengthened by the Syrians, are overcome by Joab and Abishai. 15 Shobach, making a new supply of the Syrians at Helam, is slain by David.

 10:1 ¶ And it came to pass x1961 after x310 this, y310 x3651 that the king 4428 of the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 died, 4191 z8799 and Hanun 2586 his son 1121 reigned 4427 z8799 in his stead. x8478

 10:2 Then said 559 z8799 David, 1732 I will shew 6213 z8799 kindness 2617 unto x5973 Hanun 2586 the son 1121 of Nahash, 5176 as x834 his father 1 shewed 6213 z8804 kindness 2617 unto x5973 me. And David 1732 sent 7971 z8799 to comfort 5162 z8763 him by the hand 3027 of his servants 5650 for x413 his father. 1 And David's 1732 servants 5650 came 935 z8799 into the land 776 of the children 1121 of Ammon. 5983

 10:3 And the princes 8269 of the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 said 559 z8799 unto x413 Hanun 2586 their lord, 113 Thinkest 5869 thou that David 1732 doth honour 3513 z8764 x853 thy father, 1 that x3588 he hath sent 7971 z8804 comforters 5162 z8764 unto thee? hath not x3808 David 1732 [rather] sent 7971 z8804 x853 his servants 5650 unto x413 thee, to 5668 search 2713 z8800 x853 the city, 5892 and to spy it out, 7270 z8763 and to overthrow 2015 z8800 it?

 10:4 Wherefore Hanun 2586 took 3947 z8799 David's 1732 x853 servants, 5650 and shaved off 1548 z8762 the x853 one half 2677 of their beards, 2206 and cut off 3772 z8799 x853 their garments 4063 in the middle, 2677 [even] to x5704 their buttocks, 8357 and sent them away. 7971 z8762

 10:5 When they told 5046 z8686 [it] unto David, 1732 he sent 7971 z8799 to meet 7125 z8800 them, because x3588 the men y582 x376 were x1961 greatly 3966 ashamed: 3637 z8737 and the king 4428 said, 559 z8799 Tarry 3427 z8798 at Jericho 3405 until x5704 your beards 2206 be grown, 6779 z8762 and [then] return. 7725 z8804

 10:6 ¶ And when the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 they stank 887 z8738 before David, 1732 the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 sent 7971 z8799 and hired 7936 z8799 x853 the Syrians 758 of Bethrehob, 1050 and the Syrians 758 of Zoba, 6678 twenty 6242 thousand 505 footmen, 7273 and of king 4428 Maacah 4601 a thousand 505 men, 376 and of Ishtob 382 twelve 6240 8147 thousand 505 men. 376

 10:7 And when David 1732 heard 8085 z8799 of [it], he sent 7971 z8799 x853 Joab, 3097 and all x3605 the host 6635 of the mighty men. 1368

 10:8 And the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 came out, 3318 z8799 and put the battle 4421 in array 6186 z8799 at the entering x6607 in y6607 of the gate: 8179 and the Syrians 758 of Zoba, 6678 and of Rehob, 7340 and Ishtob, 382 and Maacah, 4601 [were] by themselves 905 in the field. 7704

 10:9 When Joab 3097 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 the front 6440 of the battle 4421 was x1961 against x413 him before 6440 x4480 and behind, 268 x4480 he chose 977 z8799 of all x4480 x3605 the choice 977 z8803 [men] of Israel, 3478 and put [them] in array 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 the Syrians: 758

 10:10 And the rest 3499 of the people 5971 he delivered 5414 z8804 into the hand 3027 of Abishai 52 his brother, 251 that he might put [them] in array 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 the children 1121 of Ammon. 5983

 10:11 And he said, 559 z8799 If x518 the Syrians 758 be too strong 2388 z8799 for x4480 me, then thou shalt x1961 help 3444 me: but if x518 the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 be too strong 2388 z8799 for x4480 thee, then I will come 1980 z8804 and help 3467 z8687 thee.

 10:12 Be of good courage, 2388 z8798 and let us play the men 2388 z8691 for x1157 our people, 5971 and for x1157 the cities 5892 of our God: 430 and the LORD 3068 do 6213 z8799 that which seemeth 5869 him good. 2896

 10:13 And Joab 3097 drew nigh, 5066 z8799 and the people 5971 that x834 [were] with x5973 him, unto the battle 4421 against the Syrians: 758 and they fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 x4480 him.

 10:14 And when the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 saw 7200 z8804 that x3588 the Syrians 758 were fled, 5127 z8804 then fled 5127 z8799 they also before 6440 x4480 Abishai, 52 and entered 935 z8799 into the city. 5892 So Joab 3097 returned 7725 z8799 from x4480 x5921 the children 1121 of Ammon, 5983 and came 935 z8799 to Jerusalem. 3389

 10:15 ¶ And when the Syrians 758 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 they were smitten 5062 z8738 before 6440 Israel, 3478 they gathered y622 z8735 themselves x622 together. 3162

 10:16 And Hadarezer 1928 sent, 7971 z8799 and brought out 3318 z8686 x853 the Syrians 758 that x834 [were] beyond 5676 x4480 the river: 5104 and they came 935 z8799 to Helam; 2431 and Shobach 7731 the captain 8269 of the host 6635 of Hadarezer 1928 [went] before 6440 them.

 10:17 And when it was told 5046 z8714 David, 1732 he gathered y622 z0 all Israel y3478 together, 622 z8799 x853 x3605 x3478 and passed over 5674 z8799 x853 Jordan, 3383 and came 935 z8799 to Helam. 2431 And the Syrians 758 set themselves in array 6186 z8799 against 7125 z8800 David, 1732 and fought 3898 z8735 with x5973 him.

 10:18 And the Syrians 758 fled 5127 z8799 before 6440 x4480 Israel; 3478 and David 1732 slew 2026 z8799 [the men of] seven 7651 hundred 3967 chariots 7393 of the Syrians, 758 x4480 and forty 705 thousand 505 horsemen, 6571 and smote 5221 z8689 Shobach 7731 the captain 8269 of their host, 6635 who died 4191 z8799 there. x8033

 10:19 And when all x3605 the kings 4428 [that were] servants 5650 to Hadarezer 1928 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 they were smitten 5062 z8738 before 6440 Israel, 3478 they made peace 7999 z8686 with x854 Israel, 3478 and served 5647 z8799 them. So the Syrians 758 feared 3372 z8799 to help 3467 z8687 x853 the children 1121 of Ammon 5983 any more. x5750
