Exodus 18

1 Jethro bringeth to Moses his wife and two sons. 7 Moses entertaineth him. 13 Jethro's counsel is accepted. 27 Jethro departeth.

 18:1 ¶ When Jethro, 3503 the priest 3548 of Midian, 4080 Moses' 4872 father in law, 2859 z8802 heard 8085 z8799 x853 of all x3605 that x834 God 430 had done 6213 z8804 for Moses, 4872 and for Israel 3478 his people, 5971 [and] that x3588 the LORD 3068 had brought y3318 z8689 Israel y3478 out x3318 x853 x3478 of Egypt; 4714 x4480

 18:2 Then Jethro, 3503 Moses' 4872 father in law, 2859 z8802 took 3947 z8799 x853 Zipporah, 6855 Moses' 4872 wife, 802 after 310 he had sent her back, 7964

 18:3 And her two 8147 sons; 1121 of which x834 the name 8034 of the one 259 [was] Gershom; y1647 x1648 for x3588 he said, 559 z8804 I have been x1961 an alien 1616 in a strange 5237 land: 776

 18:4 And the name 8034 of the other 259 [was] Eliezer; 461 for x3588 the God 430 of my father, 1 [said he, was] mine help, 5828 and delivered 5337 z8686 me from the sword 2719 x4480 of Pharaoh: 6547

 18:5 And Jethro, 3503 Moses' 4872 father in law, 2859 z8802 came 935 z8799 with his sons 1121 and his wife 802 unto x413 Moses 4872 into x413 the wilderness, 4057 where x834 x8033 he x1931 encamped 2583 z8802 at the mount 2022 of God: 430

 18:6 And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 Moses, 4872 I x589 thy father in law 2859 z8802 Jethro 3503 am come 935 z8802 unto x413 thee, and thy wife, 802 and her two 8147 sons 1121 with x5973 her.

 18:7 ¶ And Moses 4872 went out 3318 z8799 to meet 7125 z8800 his father in law, 2859 z8802 and did obeisance, 7812 z8691 and kissed 5401 z8799 him; and they asked 7592 z8799 each 376 other 7453 of [their] welfare; 7965 and they came 935 z8799 into the tent. 168

 18:8 And Moses 4872 told 5608 z8762 his father in law 2859 z8802 x853 all x3605 that x834 the LORD 3068 had done 6213 z8804 unto Pharaoh 6547 and to the Egyptians 4714 for x5921 Israel's 3478 sake, 182 [and] x853 all x3605 the travail 8513 that x834 had come y4672 z8804 upon x4672 them by the way, 1870 and [how] the LORD 3068 delivered 5337 z8686 them.

 18:9 And Jethro 3503 rejoiced 2302 z8799 for x5921 all x3605 the goodness 2896 which x834 the LORD 3068 had done 6213 z8804 to Israel, 3478 whom x834 he had delivered 5337 z8689 out of the hand 3027 x4480 of the Egyptians. 4714

 18:10 And Jethro 3503 said, 559 z8799 Blessed 1288 z8803 [be] the LORD, 3068 who x834 hath delivered 5337 z8689 you out of the hand 3027 x4480 of the Egyptians, 4714 and out of the hand 3027 x4480 of Pharaoh, 6547 who x834 hath delivered 5337 z8689 x853 the people 5971 from under x4480 x8478 the hand 3027 of the Egyptians. 4714

 18:11 Now x6258 I know 3045 z8804 that x3588 the LORD 3068 [is] greater 1419 than all x4480 x3605 gods: 430 for x3588 in the thing 1697 wherein x834 they dealt proudly 2102 z8804 [he was] above x5921 them.

 18:12 And Jethro, 3503 Moses' 4872 father in law, 2859 z8802 took 3947 z8799 a burnt offering 5930 and sacrifices 2077 for God: 430 and Aaron 175 came, 935 z8799 and all x3605 the elders 2205 of Israel, 3478 to eat 398 z8800 bread 3899 with x5973 Moses' 4872 father in law 2859 z8802 before 6440 God. 430

 18:13 ¶ And it came to pass x1961 on the morrow, 4283 x4480 that Moses 4872 sat 3427 z8799 to judge 8199 z8800 x853 the people: 5971 and the people 5971 stood 5975 z8799 by x5921 Moses 4872 from x4480 the morning 1242 unto x5704 the evening. 6153

 18:14 And when Moses' 4872 father in law 2859 z8802 saw 7200 z8799 x853 all x3605 that x834 he x1931 did 6213 z8802 to the people, 5971 he said, 559 z8799 What x4100 [is] this x2088 thing 1697 that x834 thou x859 doest 6213 z8802 to the people? 5971 why x4069 sittest 3427 z8802 thou x859 thyself alone, x905 and all x3605 the people 5971 stand 5324 z8737 by x5921 thee from x4480 morning 1242 unto x5704 even? 6153

 18:15 And Moses 4872 said 559 z8799 unto his father in law, 2859 z8802 Because x3588 the people 5971 come 935 z8799 unto x413 me to enquire 1875 z8800 of God: 430

 18:16 When x3588 they have x1961 a matter, 1697 they come 935 z8802 unto x413 me; and I judge 8199 z8804 between x996 one 376 and another, 7453 and I do make [them] know 3045 z8689 x853 the statutes 2706 of God, 430 and his laws. 8451

 18:17 And Moses' 4872 father in law 2859 z8802 said 559 z8799 unto x413 him, The thing 1697 that x834 thou x859 doest 6213 z8802 [is] not x3808 good. 2896

 18:18 Thou wilt surely y5034 z8800 wear away, 5034 z8799 both x1571 thou, x859 and x1571 this x2088 people 5971 that x834 [is] with x5973 thee: for x3588 this thing 1697 [is] too heavy 3515 for x4480 thee; thou art not x3808 able 3201 z8799 to perform 6213 z8800 it thyself alone. x905

 18:19 Hearken 8085 z8798 now x6258 unto my voice, 6963 I will give thee counsel, 3289 z8799 and God 430 shall be 1961 z8798 with x5973 thee: Be x1961 thou x859 for the people 5971 to God-ward, 4136 430 that thou x859 mayest bring 935 z8689 x853 the causes 1697 unto x413 God: 430

 18:20 And thou shalt teach 2094 z8689 y853 them x853 ordinances 2706 and laws, 8451 and shalt shew 3045 z8689 them x853 the way 1870 wherein they must walk, y3212 z8799 x1980 and the work y4639 x4640 that x834 they must do. 6213 z8799

 18:21 Moreover thou x859 shalt provide 2372 z8799 out of all x4480 x3605 the people 5971 able 2428 men, y582 x376 such as fear 3373 God, 430 men y582 x376 of truth, 571 hating 8130 z8802 covetousness; 1215 and place 7760 z8804 [such] over x5921 them, [to be] rulers 8269 of thousands, 505 [and] rulers 8269 of hundreds, 3967 rulers 8269 of fifties, 2572 and rulers 8269 of tens: 6235

 18:22 And let them judge 8199 z8804 x853 the people 5971 at all x3605 seasons: 6256 and it shall be, x1961 [that] every x3605 great 1419 matter 1697 they shall bring 935 z8686 unto x413 thee, but every x3605 small 6996 matter 1697 they x1992 shall judge: 8199 z8799 so shall it be easier 7043 z8685 for x4480 x5921 thyself, and they shall bear 5375 z8804 [the burden] with x854 thee.

 18:23 If x518 thou shalt do 6213 z8799 x853 this x2088 thing, 1697 and God 430 command 6680 z8765 thee [so], then thou shalt be able 3201 z8804 to endure, 5975 z8800 and all x3605 this x2088 people 5971 shall also x1571 go 935 z8799 to x5921 their place 4725 in peace. 7965

 18:24 So Moses 4872 hearkened 8085 z8799 to the voice 6963 of his father in law, 2859 z8802 and did 6213 z8799 all x3605 that x834 he had said. 559 z8804

 18:25 And Moses 4872 chose 977 z8799 able 2428 men y582 x376 out of all x4480 x3605 Israel, 3478 and made 5414 z8799 them heads 7218 over x5921 the people, 5971 rulers 8269 of thousands, 505 rulers 8269 of hundreds, 3967 rulers 8269 of fifties, 2572 and rulers 8269 of tens. 6235

 18:26 And they judged 8199 z8804 x853 the people 5971 at all x3605 seasons: 6256 the hard 7186 x853 causes 1697 they brought 935 z8686 unto x413 Moses, 4872 but every x3605 small 6996 matter 1697 y1992 they judged 8199 z8799 themselves. x1992

 18:27 ¶ And Moses 4872 let x853 his father in law 2859 z8802 depart; 7971 z8762 and he went y3212 z8799 his way x1980 into x413 his own land. 776
