Nehemiah 2

1 Artaxerxes understanding the cause of Nehemiah's sadness sendeth him with letters and commission to Jerusalem. 9 Nehemiah, to the grief of the enemies, cometh to Jerusalem. 12 He vieweth secretly the ruins of the walls. 17 He inciteth the Jews to build in despite of the enemies.

 2:1 ¶ And it came to passe, x1961 in the moneth 2320 Nisan, 5212 in the twentieth 6242 yeere 8141 of Artaxerxes 783 the king, 4428 [that] wine 3196 [was] before 6440 him: and I tooke vp 5375 z8799 x853 the wine, 3196 and gaue 5414 z8799 it vnto the King: 4428 now I had not x3808 bene x1961 [beforetime] sad 7451 in his presence. 6440

 2:2 Wherefore the king 4428 said 559 z8799 vnto me, Why x4069 is thy countenance 6440 sadde, 7451 seeing thou x859 art not x369 sicke? 2470 z8802 this x2088 [is] nothing x369 [else] but x3588 x518 sorrow 7455 of heart. 3820 Then I was very 3966 sore 7235 z8687 afraid, 3372 z8799

 2:3 And said 559 z8799 vnto the king, 4428 Let the king 4428 liue 2421 z8799 for euer: 5769 why x4069 should not x3808 my countenance 6440 be sad, y3415 z8799 x7489 when x834 the city, 5892 the place 1004 of my fathers 1 Sepulchres, 6913 lyeth waste, 2720 and the gates 8179 thereof are consumed 398 z8795 with fire? 784

 2:4 Then the king 4428 said 559 z8799 vnto me, For x5921 what x4100 x2088 doest thou x859 make request? 1245 z8764 So I prayed 6419 z8691 to x413 the God 430 of heauen. 8064

 2:5 And I said 559 z8799 vnto the king, 4428 If x518 it please 2895 z8804 x5921 the king, 4428 and if x518 thy seruant 5650 haue found fauour 3190 z8799 in thy sight, 6440 that x834 thou wouldest send 7971 z8799 me vnto x413 Iudah 3063 vnto x413 the City 5892 of my fathers 1 sepulchres, 6913 that I may build 1129 z8799 it.

 2:6 And the king 4428 saide 559 z8799 vnto mee (the Queene 7694 also sitting 3427 z8802 by x681 him) y681 For x5704 how long x4970 shall thy iourney 4109 bee? x1961 and when x4970 wilt thou returne? 7725 z8799 So it pleased 3190 6440 z8799 the king 4428 to send 7971 z8799 me, and I set 5414 z8799 him a time. 2165

 2:7 Moreouer I saide 559 z8799 vnto the king, 4428 If x518 it please 2895 z8804 x5921 the king, 4428 let letters 107 be giuen 5414 z8799 mee to x5921 the gouernours 6346 beyond 5676 the Riuer, 5104 that x834 they may conuey me ouer, 5674 z8686 till x5704 x834 I come 935 z8799 into x413 Iudah; 3063

 2:8 And a letter 107 vnto x413 Asaph 623 the keeper 8104 z8802 of the kings 4428 forrest, 6508 that x834 he may giue 5414 z8799 me timber 6086 to make beames 7136 z8763 for x853 the gates 8179 of the palace 1002 which x834 [appertained] to the house, 1004 and for the wall 2346 of the Citie, 5892 and for the house 1004 that x834 I shall enter x935 into: y935 z8799 x413 And the king 4428 granted 5414 z8799 me, according to the good 2896 hand 3027 of my God 430 vpon x5921 me.

 2:9 ¶ Then I came 935 z8799 to x413 the gouernours 6346 beyond 5676 the riuer, 5104 and gaue 5414 z8799 them x853 the kings 4428 letters: 107 (now the king 4428 had sent 7971 z8799 captaines 8269 of the army, 2428 and horsemen 6571 with x5973 me.)

 2:10 When Sanballat 5571 the Horonite, 2772 and Tobiah 2900 the seruant, 5650 the Ammonite, 5984 heard 8085 z8799 of it, it grieued y3415 z8799 x7489 them exceedingly, 7451 1419 that x834 there was come 935 z8804 a man, 120 to seeke 1245 z8763 the welfare 2896 of the children 1121 of Israel. 3478

 2:11 So I came 935 z8799 to x413 Ierusalem, 3389 and was x1961 there x8033 three 7969 dayes. 3117

 2:12 ¶ And I arose 6965 z8799 in the night, 3915 I, x589 and some y4592 few 4592 men y582 x376 with x5973 mee, neither x3808 tolde 5046 z8689 I any man 120 what x4100 God 430 had put 5414 z8802 in x413 my heart 3820 to doe 6213 z8800 at Ierusalem: 3389 neither x369 was there any beast 929 with x5973 mee, saue x3588 x518 the beast 929 that x834 I x589 rode x7392 vpon. y7392 z8802

 2:13 And I went out 3318 z8799 by night, 3915 by the gate 8179 of the valley, 1516 euen before 6440 x413 the dragon 8577 well, 5869 z8677 y5886 and to x413 the doung-port, 830 8179 and viewed 7663 z8802 z8675 y7665 z8799 x1961 the walls 2346 of Ierusalem, 3389 which x834 were broken downe, 6555 z8803 and the gates 8179 thereof were consumed 398 z8795 with fire. 784

 2:14 Then I went on 5674 z8799 to x413 the gate 8179 of the fountaine, 5869 and to x413 the kings 4428 poole: 1295 but there was no x369 place 4725 for the beast 929 that was vnder x8478 me, to passe. 5674 z8800

 2:15 Then went I vp 5927 z8802 x1961 in the night 3915 by the brooke, 5158 and viewed 7663 z8802 z8675 y7665 z8799 x1961 the wall, 2346 and turned backe, 7725 z8799 and entred 935 z8799 by the gate 8179 of the valley, 1516 and [so] returned. 7725 z8799

 2:16 And the rulers 5461 knew 3045 z8804 not x3808 whither x575 I went, 1980 z8804 or what x4100 I x589 did, 6213 z8802 neither x3808 had I as x5704 yet 3651 tolde 5046 z8689 it to the Iewes, 3064 nor to the Priests, 3548 nor to the nobles, 2715 nor to the rulers, 5461 nor to the rest 3499 that did 6213 z8802 the worke. 4399

 2:17 ¶ Then said 559 z8799 I vnto x413 them, Yee x859 see 7200 z8802 the distresse 7451 that x834 we x587 are in, how x834 Ierusalem 3389 lieth waste, 2720 and the gates 8179 therof are burnt 3341 z8738 with fire: 784 come, y3212 z8798 x1980 and let vs builde vp 1129 z8799 x853 the wall 2346 of Ierusalem, 3389 that we be x1961 no x3808 more x5750 a reproch. 2781

 2:18 Then I told 5046 z8686 them of x853 the hand 3027 of my God, 430 which x834 x1931 was good 2896 vpon x5921 me; as also x637 the kings 4428 wordes 1697 that x834 he had spoken 559 z8804 vnto me. And they said, 559 z8799 Let vs rise vp 6965 z8799 and builde. 1129 z8804 So they strengthened 2388 z8762 their hands 3027 for this good 2896 [worke].

 2:19 But when Sanballat 5571 the Horonite, 2772 and Tobiah 2900 the seruant 5650 the Ammonite, 5984 and Geshem 1654 the Arabian 6163 heard 8085 z8799 it, they laughed vs to scorne, 3932 z8686 and despised 959 z8799 x5921 vs, and said, 559 z8799 What x4100 is this x2088 thing 1697 that x834 yee x859 doe? 6213 z8802 will ye x859 rebell 4775 z8802 against x5921 the king? 4428

 2:20 Then answered 7725 1697 z8686 I them, and said 559 z8799 vnto them, The God 430 of heauen, 8064 he x1931 will prosper 6743 z8686 vs, therefore wee x587 his seruants 5650 will arise 6965 z8799 and build: 1129 z8804 But you haue no x369 portion, 2506 nor right, 6666 nor memoriall 2146 in Ierusalem. 3389
