1 Kings 12

1 The Israelites, assembled at Shechem to crown Rehoboam, by Jeroboam make a suit of relaxation unto him. 6 Rehoboam, refusing the old men's counsel, by the advice of young men, answereth them roughly. 16 Ten tribes revolting, kill Adoram, and make Rehoboam to flee. 21 Rehoboam, raising an army, is forbidden by Shemaiah. 25 Jeroboam strengtheneth himself by cities, 26 and by the idolatry of the two calves.

 12:1 ¶ And Rehoboam 7346 went y3212 z8799 x1980 to Shechem: 7927 for x3588 all x3605 Israel 3478 were come 935 z8804 to Shechem 7927 to make him king. 4427 z8687 x853

 12:2 And it came to pass, x1961 when Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat, 5028 who x1931 was yet x5750 in Egypt, 4714 heard 8085 z8800 [of it], (for x834 he was fled 1272 z8804 from the presence 6440 x4480 of king 4428 Solomon, 8010 and Jeroboam 3379 dwelt 3427 z8799 in Egypt;) 4714

 12:3 That they sent 7971 z8799 and called 7121 z8799 him. And Jeroboam 3379 and all x3605 the congregation 6951 of Israel 3478 came, 935 z8799 and spoke 1696 z8762 unto x413 Rehoboam, 7346 saying, 559 z8800

 12:4 Thy father 1 made y7185 z0 x853 our yoke 5923 grievous: 7185 z8689 now x6258 therefore make thou x859 the grievous 7186 service 5656 x4480 of thy father, 1 and his heavy 3515 yoke 5923 x4480 which x834 he put 5414 z8804 upon x5921 us, lighter, 7043 z8685 and we will serve 5647 z8799 thee.

 12:5 And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 them, Depart y3212 z8798 x1980 yet x5750 [for] three 7969 days, 3117 then come again 7725 z8798 to x413 me. And the people 5971 departed. y3212 z8799 x1980

 12:6 ¶ And king 4428 Rehoboam 7346 consulted 3289 z8735 with x854 the old men, 2205 that x834 stood 5975 z8802 x853 before 6440 Solomon 8010 his father 1 while x1961 he yet lived, 2416 and said, 559 z8800 How x349 do ye x859 advise 3289 z8737 that I may y7725 z8687 answer 1697 x7725 x853 this x2088 people? 5971

 12:7 And they spoke 1696 z8762 unto x413 him, saying, 559 z8800 If x518 thou wilt be x1961 a servant 5650 unto this x2088 people 5971 this day, 3117 and wilt serve 5647 z8804 them, and answer 6030 z8804 them, and speak 1696 z8765 good 2896 words 1697 to x413 them, then they will be x1961 thy servants 5650 forever. 3117 x3605

 12:8 But he forsook 5800 z8799 x853 the counsel 6098 of the old men, 2205 which x834 they had given 3289 z8804 him, and consulted 3289 z8735 with x854 the young men 3206 that x834 were grown up 1431 z8804 with x854 him, [and] which x834 stood 5975 z8802 before 6440 him:

 12:9 And he said 559 z8799 unto x413 them, What x4100 counsel x3289 give y3289 z8737 ye x859 that we may y7725 z8686 answer 1697 x7725 x853 this x2088 people, 5971 who x834 have spoken 1696 z8765 to x413 me, saying, 559 z8800 Make y7043 z0 the yoke 5923 which x834 thy father 1 did put 5414 z8804 upon x5921 us lighter? 7043 z8685

 12:10 And the young men 3206 that x834 were grown up 1431 z8804 with x854 him spoke 1696 z8762 unto x413 him, saying, 559 z8800 Thus x3541 shalt thou speak 559 z8799 unto this x2088 people 5971 that x834 spoke 1696 z8765 unto x413 thee, saying, 559 z8800 Thy father 1 made y3513 z0 x853 our yoke 5923 heavy, 3513 z8689 but make thou x859 [it] lighter 7043 z8685 unto x4480 x5921 us; thus x3541 shalt thou say 1696 z8762 unto x413 them, My little 6995 [finger] shall be thicker 5666 z8804 than my father's 1 loins. 4975 x4480

 12:11 And now x6258 whereas my father 1 did lade 6006 z8689 x5921 you with a heavy 3515 yoke, 5923 I x589 will add 3254 z8686 to x5921 your yoke: 5923 my father 1 hath chastised 3256 z8765 you with whips, 7752 but I x589 will chastise 3256 z8762 you with scorpions. 6137

 12:12 ¶ So Jeroboam 3379 and all x3605 the people 5971 came 935 z8799 to x413 Rehoboam 7346 the third 7992 day, 3117 as x834 the king 4428 had appointed, 1696 z8765 saying, 559 z8800 Come x7725 to x413 me again y7725 z8798 the third 7992 day. 3117

 12:13 And the king 4428 answered 6030 z8799 x853 the people 5971 roughly, 7186 and forsook 5800 z8799 x853 the old men's 2205 counsel 6098 that x834 they gave 3289 z8804 him;

 12:14 And spoke 1696 z8762 to x413 them after the counsel 6098 of the young men, 3206 saying, 559 z8800 My father 1 made y3513 z0 x853 your yoke 5923 heavy, 3513 z8689 and I x589 will add 3254 z8686 to x5921 your yoke: 5923 my father 1 [also] chastised 3256 z8765 you with whips, 7752 but I x589 will chastise 3256 z8762 you with scorpions. 6137

 12:15 Wherefore the king 4428 hearkened 8085 z8804 not x3808 unto x413 the people; 5971 for x3588 the cause 5438 was x1961 from x4480 x5973 the LORD, 3068 that x4616 he might perform 6965 z8687 x853 his saying, 1697 which x834 the LORD 3068 spoke 1696 z8765 by 3027 Ahijah 281 the Shilonite 7888 unto x413 Jeroboam 3379 the son 1121 of Nebat. 5028

 12:16 ¶ So y7725 z8686 when all x3605 Israel 3478 saw 7200 z8799 that x3588 the king 4428 hearkened 8085 z8804 not x3808 unto x413 them, the people 5971 answered 1697 x7725 x853 the king, 4428 saying, 559 z8800 What x4100 portion 2506 have we in David? 1732 neither x3808 [have we] inheritance 5159 in the son 1121 of Jesse: 3448 to your tents, 168 O Israel: 3478 now x6258 see 7200 z8798 to thine own house, 1004 David. 1732 So Israel 3478 departed y3212 z8799 x1980 unto their tents. 168

 12:17 But [as for] the children 1121 of Israel 3478 which dwelt 3427 z8802 in the cities 5892 of Judah, 3063 Rehoboam 7346 reigned 4427 z8799 over x5921 them.

 12:18 Then king 4428 Rehoboam 7346 sent 7971 z8799 x853 Adoram, 151 who x834 [was] over x5921 the tribute; 4522 and all x3605 Israel 3478 stoned 7275 z8799 him with stones, 68 that he died. 4191 z8799 Therefore king 4428 Rehoboam 7346 made speed 553 z8694 to get him up 5927 z8800 to his chariot, 4818 to flee 5127 z8800 to Jerusalem. 3389

 12:19 So Israel 3478 rebelled 6586 z8799 against the house 1004 of David 1732 unto x5704 this x2088 day. 3117

 12:20 And it came to pass, x1961 when all x3605 Israel 3478 heard 8085 z8800 that x3588 Jeroboam 3379 was come again, 7725 z8804 that they sent 7971 z8799 and called 7121 z8799 him unto x413 the congregation, 5712 and made him king 4427 z8686 x853 over x5921 all x3605 Israel: 3478 there was x1961 none x3808 that followed 310 the house 1004 of David, 1732 but 2108 the tribe 7626 of Judah 3063 only. x905

 12:21 ¶ And when Rehoboam 7346 was come 935 z8799 to Jerusalem, 3389 he assembled 6950 z8686 x853 all x3605 the house 1004 of Judah, 3063 with x854 the tribe 7626 of Benjamin, 1144 a hundred 3967 and fourscore 8084 thousand 505 chosen x977 men, y977 z8803 which were warriors, 6213 4421 z8802 to fight 3898 z8736 against x5973 the house 1004 of Israel, 3478 to bring 7725 z0 x853 the kingdom 4410 again y7725 z8687 to Rehoboam 7346 the son 1121 of Solomon. 8010

 12:22 But the word 1697 of God 430 came x1961 unto x413 Shemaiah 8098 the man 376 of God, 430 saying, 559 z8800

 12:23 Speak 559 z8798 unto x413 Rehoboam, 7346 the son 1121 of Solomon, 8010 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 and unto x413 all x3605 the house 1004 of Judah 3063 and Benjamin, 1144 and to the remnant 3499 of the people, 5971 saying, 559 z8800

 12:24 Thus x3541 saith 559 z8804 the LORD, 3068 Ye shall not x3808 go up, 5927 z8799 nor x3808 fight 3898 z8735 against x5973 your brethren 251 the children 1121 of Israel: 3478 return 7725 z8798 every man 376 to his house; 1004 for x3588 this x2088 thing 1697 is 1961 z8738 from x4480 x854 me. They hearkened 8085 z8799 therefore x853 to the word 1697 of the LORD, 3068 and returned 7725 z8799 to depart, y3212 z8800 x1980 according to the word 1697 of the LORD. 3068

 12:25 ¶ Then Jeroboam 3379 built 1129 z8799 x853 Shechem 7927 in mount 2022 Ephraim, 669 and dwelt 3427 z8799 therein; and went out 3318 z8799 from thence, x4480 x8033 and built 1129 z8799 x853 Penuel. 6439

 12:26 And Jeroboam 3379 said 559 z8799 in his heart, 3820 Now x6258 shall the kingdom 4467 return 7725 z8799 to the house 1004 of David: 1732

 12:27 If x518 this x2088 people 5971 go up 5927 z8799 to do 6213 z8800 sacrifice 2077 in the house 1004 of the LORD 3068 at Jerusalem, 3389 then shall the heart 3820 of this x2088 people 5971 turn again 7725 z8804 unto x413 their lord, 113 [even] unto x413 Rehoboam 7346 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 and they shall kill 2026 z8804 me, and go again 7725 z8804 to x413 Rehoboam 7346 king 4428 of Judah. 3063

 12:28 Whereupon the king 4428 took counsel, 3289 z8735 and made 6213 z8799 two 8147 calves 5695 [of] gold, 2091 and said 559 z8799 unto x413 them, It is too much 7227 for you to go up 5927 z8800 x4480 to Jerusalem: 3389 behold x2009 thy gods, 430 O Israel, 3478 which x834 brought x5927 thee up y5927 z8689 out of the land 776 x4480 of Egypt. 4714

 12:29 And he set 7760 z8799 x853 the one 259 in Bethel, 1008 and the other 259 put 5414 z8804 he in Dan. 1835

 12:30 And this x2088 thing 1697 became x1961 a sin: 2403 for the people 5971 went y3212 z8799 x1980 [to worship] before 6440 the one, 259 [even] unto x5704 Dan. 1835

 12:31 And he made 6213 z8799 x853 a house 1004 of high places, 1116 and made 6213 z8799 priests 3548 of the lowest 7098 x4480 of the people, 5971 which x834 were x1961 not x3808 of the sons 1121 x4480 of Levi. 3878

 12:32 And Jeroboam 3379 ordained 6213 z8799 a feast 2282 in the eighth 8066 month, 2320 on the fifteenth 2568 6240 day 3117 of the month, 2320 like unto the feast 2282 that x834 [is] in Judah, 3063 and he offered 5927 z8686 upon x5921 the altar. 4196 So x3651 did 6213 z8804 he in Bethel, 1008 sacrificing 2076 z8763 unto the calves 5695 that x834 he had made: 6213 z8804 and he placed 5975 z8689 in Bethel 1008 x853 the priests 3548 of the high places 1116 which x834 he had made. 6213 z8804

 12:33 So he offered 5927 z8686 upon x5921 the altar 4196 which x834 he had made 6213 z8804 in Bethel 1008 the fifteenth 2568 6240 day 3117 of the eighth 8066 month, 2320 [even] in the month 2320 which x834 he had devised 908 z8804 of his own heart; 3820 x4480 and ordained 6213 z8799 a feast 2282 unto the children 1121 of Israel: 3478 and he offered 5927 z8686 upon x5921 the altar, 4196 and burnt incense. 6999 z8687
