2 Chronicles 25

1 Amaziah beginneth to reign well. 3 He executeth justice on the traitors. 5 Having hired an army of Israelites against the Edomites, at the word of a prophet he loseth the hundred talents, and dismisseth them. 11 He overthroweth the Edomites. 10, 13 The Israelites, discontented with their dismission, spoil as they return home. 14 Amaziah, proud of his victory, serveth the gods of Edom, and despiseth the admonitions of the prophet. 17 He provoketh Joash to his overthrow. 25 His reign. 27 He is slain by conspiracy.

 25:1 ¶ Amaziah 558 [was] twenty 6242 and five 2568 years 8141 old 1121 [when] he began to reign, 4427 z8804 and he reigned 4427 z8804 twenty 6242 and nine 8672 years 8141 in Jerusalem. 3389 And his mother's 517 name 8034 [was] Jehoaddan 3086 of Jerusalem. 3389 x4480

 25:2 And he did 6213 z8799 [that which was] right 3477 in the sight 5869 of the LORD, 3068 but x7535 not x3808 with a perfect 8003 heart. 3824

 25:3 ¶ Now it came to pass, x1961 when x834 the kingdom 4467 was established 2388 z8804 to x5921 him, that he slew 2026 z8799 x853 his servants 5650 that had killed 5221 z8688 x853 the king 4428 his father. 1

 25:4 But he slew 4191 z8689 not x3808 their children, 1121 but x3588 [did] as [it is] written 3789 z8803 in the law 8451 in the book 5612 of Moses, 4872 where x834 the LORD 3068 commanded, 6680 z8765 saying, 559 z8800 The fathers 1 shall not x3808 die 4191 z8799 for x5921 the children, 1121 neither x3808 shall the children 1121 die 4191 z8799 for x5921 the fathers, 1 but x3588 every man 376 shall die 4191 z8799 for his own sin. 2399

 25:5 ¶ Moreover Amaziah 558 gathered y6908 z0 Judah y3063 together, 6908 z8799 x853 x3063 and made 5975 z8686 them captains 8269 over thousands, 505 and captains 8269 over hundreds, 3967 according to the houses 1004 of [their] fathers, 1 throughout all x3605 Judah 3063 and Benjamin: 1144 and he numbered 6485 z8799 them from twenty 6242 years 8141 old 1121 x4480 and above, 4605 and found 4672 z8799 them three 7969 hundred 3967 thousand 505 choice 977 z8803 [men, able] to go forth 3318 z8802 to war, 6635 that could handle 270 z8802 spear 7420 and shield. 6793

 25:6 He hired 7936 z8799 also an hundred 3967 thousand 505 mighty y1368 men x1368 of valour 2428 out of Israel 3478 x4480 for an hundred 3967 talents 3603 of silver. 3701

 25:7 But there came 935 z8804 a man 376 of God 430 to x413 him, saying, 559 z8800 O king, 4428 let not x408 the army 6635 of Israel 3478 go 935 z8799 with x5973 thee; for x3588 the LORD 3068 [is] not x369 with x5973 Israel, 3478 [to wit, with] all x3605 the children 1121 of Ephraim. 669

 25:8 But x3588 if x518 thou x859 wilt go, 935 z8798 do 6213 z8798 [it], be strong 2388 z8798 for the battle: 4421 God 430 shall make thee fall 3782 z8686 before 6440 the enemy: 341 z8802 for x3588 God 430 hath 3426 power 3581 to help, 5826 z8800 and to cast down. 3782 z8687

 25:9 And Amaziah 558 said 559 z8799 to the man 376 of God, 430 But what x4100 shall we do 6213 z8800 for the hundred 3967 talents 3603 which x834 I have given 5414 z8804 to the army 1416 of Israel? 3478 And the man 376 of God 430 answered, 559 z8799 The LORD 3068 is 3426 able to give 5414 z8800 thee much more 7235 z8687 than this. x4480 x2088

 25:10 Then Amaziah 558 separated 914 z8686 them, [to wit], the army 1416 that x834 was come 935 z8804 to x413 him out of Ephraim, 669 x4480 to go y3212 z0 x1980 home 4725 again: y3212 z8800 wherefore their anger 639 was greatly 3966 kindled 2734 z8799 against Judah, 3063 and they returned 7725 z8799 home 4725 in great 2750 anger. 639

 25:11 ¶ And Amaziah 558 strengthened y2388 z8694 himself, x2388 and led forth 5090 z8799 x853 his people, 5971 and went y3212 z8799 x1980 to the valley 1516 of salt, 4417 and smote 5221 z8686 x853 of the children 1121 of Seir 8165 ten 6235 thousand. 505

 25:12 And [other] ten 6235 thousand 505 [left] alive 2416 did the children 1121 of Judah 3063 carry away captive, 7617 z8804 and brought 935 z8686 them unto the top 7218 of the rock, 5553 and cast them down 7993 z8686 from the top 7218 x4480 of the rock, 5553 that they all x3605 were broken in pieces. 1234 z8738

 25:13 ¶ But the soldiers 1121 of the army 1416 which x834 Amaziah 558 sent back, 7725 z8689 that they should not go y3212 z8800 x4480 x1980 with x5973 him to battle, 4421 fell y6584 z8799 upon x6584 the cities 5892 of Judah, 3063 from Samaria 8111 x4480 even unto x5704 Bethhoron, 1032 and smote 5221 z8686 three 7969 thousand 505 of x4480 them, and took 962 z8799 much 7227 spoil. 961

 25:14 ¶ Now it came to pass, x1961 after y310 that x310 Amaziah 558 was come 935 z8800 from the slaughter 5221 z8687 x4480 x853 of the Edomites, 130 that he brought 935 z8686 x853 the gods 430 of the children 1121 of Seir, 8165 and set them up 5975 z8686 [to be] his gods, 430 and bowed down y7812 z8691 himself x7812 before 6440 them, and burned incense 6999 z8762 unto them.

 25:15 Wherefore the anger 639 of the LORD 3068 was kindled 2734 z8799 against Amaziah, 558 and he sent 7971 z8799 unto x413 him a prophet, 5030 which said 559 z8799 unto him, Why x4100 hast thou sought y1875 z8804 after x1875 x853 the gods 430 of the people, 5971 which x834 could not x3808 deliver 5337 z8689 x853 their own people 5971 out of thine hand? 3027 x4480

 25:16 And it came to pass, x1961 as he talked 1696 z8763 with x413 him, that [the king] said 559 z8799 unto him, Art thou made 5414 z8804 of the king's 4428 counsel? 3289 z8802 forbear; 2308 z8798 why x4100 shouldest thou be smitten? 5221 z8686 Then the prophet 5030 forbare, 2308 z8799 and said, 559 z8799 I know 3045 z8804 that x3588 God 430 hath determined 3289 z8804 to destroy 7843 z8687 thee, because x3588 thou hast done 6213 z8804 this, x2063 and hast not x3808 hearkened 8085 z8804 unto my counsel. 6098

 25:17 ¶ Then Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah 3063 took advice, 3289 z8735 and sent 7971 z8799 to x413 Joash, 3101 the son 1121 of Jehoahaz, 3059 the son 1121 of Jehu, 3058 king 4428 of Israel, 3478 saying, 559 z8800 Come, y3212 z8798 x1980 let us see one another 7200 z8691 in the face. 6440

 25:18 And Joash 3101 king 4428 of Israel 3478 sent 7971 z8799 to x413 Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 saying, 559 z8800 The thistle 2336 that x834 [was] in Lebanon 3844 sent 7971 z8804 to x413 the cedar 730 that x834 [was] in Lebanon, 3844 saying, 559 z8800 Give 5414 z8798 x853 thy daughter 1323 to my son 1121 to wife: 802 and there passed by 5674 z8799 a wild 7704 beast 2416 that x834 [was] in Lebanon, 3844 and trode down 7429 z8799 x853 the thistle. 2336

 25:19 Thou sayest, 559 z8804 Lo, x2009 thou hast smitten 5221 z8689 x853 the Edomites; 123 and thine heart 3820 lifteth thee up 5375 z8804 to boast: 3513 z8687 abide 3427 z8798 now x6258 at home; 1004 why x4100 shouldest thou meddle 1624 z8691 to [thine] hurt, 7451 that thou shouldest fall, 5307 z8804 [even] thou, x859 and Judah 3063 with x5973 thee?

 25:20 But Amaziah 558 would not x3808 hear; 8085 z8804 for x3588 it x1931 [came] of God, 430 x4480 that x4616 he might deliver 5414 z8800 them into the hand 3027 [of their enemies], because x3588 they sought y1875 z8804 after x1875 x853 the gods 430 of Edom. 123

 25:21 So Joash 3101 the king 4428 of Israel 3478 went up; 5927 z8799 and they saw one another 7200 z8691 in the face, 6440 [both] he x1931 and Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 at Bethshemesh, 1053 which x834 [belongeth] to Judah. 3063

 25:22 And Judah 3063 was put to the worse 5062 z8735 before 6440 Israel, 3478 and they fled 5127 z8799 every man 376 to his tent. 168

 25:23 And Joash 3101 the king 4428 of Israel 3478 took 8610 z8804 Amaziah 558 king 4428 of Judah, 3063 the son 1121 of Joash, 3101 the son 1121 of Jehoahaz, 3059 at Bethshemesh, 1053 and brought 935 z8686 him to Jerusalem, 3389 and brake down 6555 z8799 the wall 2346 of Jerusalem 3389 from the gate 8179 x4480 of Ephraim 669 to x5704 the corner y6437 z8802 x6438 gate, 8179 four 702 hundred 3967 cubits. 520

 25:24 And [he took] all x3605 the gold 2091 and the silver, 3701 and x853 all x3605 the vessels 3627 that were found 4672 z8737 in the house 1004 of God 430 with x5973 Obededom, 5654 and the treasures 214 of the king's 4428 house, 1004 x853 the hostages 1121 8594 also, and returned 7725 z8799 to Samaria. 8111

 25:25 ¶ And Amaziah 558 the son 1121 of Joash 3101 king 4428 of Judah 3063 lived 2421 z8799 after 310 the death 4194 of Joash 3101 son 1121 of Jehoahaz 3059 king 4428 of Israel 3478 fifteen 2568 6240 years. 8141

 25:26 Now the rest 3499 of the acts 1697 of Amaziah, 558 first 7223 and last, 314 behold, x2009 [are] they not x3808 written 3789 z8803 in x5921 the book 5612 of the kings 4428 of Judah 3063 and Israel? 3478

 25:27 ¶ Now after the time 6256 x4480 that x834 Amaziah 558 did turn away 5493 z8804 from following 310 x4480 the LORD 3068 they made 7194 z8799 a conspiracy 7195 against x5921 him in Jerusalem; 3389 and he fled 5127 z8799 to Lachish: 3923 but they sent 7971 z8799 to Lachish 3923 after 310 him, and slew 4191 z8686 him there. x8033

 25:28 And they brought 5375 z8799 him upon x5921 horses, 5483 and buried 6912 z8799 him with x5973 his fathers 1 in the city 5892 of Judah. 3063
